The North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota State University Extension Service have scheduled a weed seed-free forage training and certification session at the North Central Research Extension Center, located at 5400 U.S. Highway 83 S, on May 18 for people with weed identification experience.
Weed seed-free forage is required for use on federal and many state lands and the 2009 Legislature authorized the department to train and certify weed-free forage inspectors. Weed-seed forage must not contain any seeds or parts of any noxious or undesirable weeds listed by the state or by the North American Weed Management Association.
Two other training sessions are scheduled for May 11 at Dickinson State University and May 14 at the Carrington Research Extension Center. All classes begin at 9 a.m. and run into the afternoon and include classroom instruction and fieldwork. For more information or to register, contact Blake Schaan at 328-2250 or blakeschaan@nd.gov.
