DEVILS LAKE Samuel Duane Carter, 59, Manvel, formerly of Devils Lake, died Monday, April 6, 2009, in his home.
He was born Jan. 15, 1950, to Duane and Irma Carter in Devils Lake. He entered the Army in March 1970 and served in Germany. He was discharged Jan. 12, 1972. He also served with the North Dakota Army National Guard at Camp Grafton for 17 years and was discharged Jan. 12, 2004. He was once married to Mary Walters. He married Sharon Olafson June 15, 1993.
Survivors: wife; daughters, Samantha Richards, Owatonna, Minn., Melissa Mangahas, Surprise, Ariz., Mariam Carter, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; stepsons, Danny Clark and Robert Clark, both Gladstone, Mont., Johnny Clark, Gilby, Chad Keller, Upham; stepdaughter, Sharry Johnson, Milnor; 14 grandchildren; parents, of Devils Lake; brother, Brent, Rockford, Minn.; sister, Brenda Crawford, Minot.
Funeral: Saturday, 11 a.m., St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Burial: Upham Cemetery, in the spring.
Visitation: Today, 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
