Margaret Walter, 93, Stanley, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley. There will be viewing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, March 10, at Springan Funeral Home in Stanley. On Wednesday, March 11, at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Stanley, there will be viewing from 9 to 10 a.m., a rosary at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Stanley.

Margaret was born Feb. 23, 1916, at Esmond, ND, to Joseph and Ottilia (Wentz) Streifel. She grew up on a farm and attended grade school near there. On June 12, 1931, she married Wendelin Walter at Esmond, ND.

Wendelin and Margaret worked at various jobs in the Berwick and Balta, ND, region for the first years of their marriage. In 1937-1938 Wendelin went to work at the lumberyard in Balta. In 1941 the lumberyard in Balta closed its doors and Wendelin and Margaret moved to Stanley, ND, where Wendelin went to work at Will Lumber Co. Wendelin entered into eternal rest in June 1964.

After Wendelin's death Margaret continued to make her home in Stanley. She did day care and foster child care in her home for several years following Wendelin's death. In 1991 she moved to Ray, ND. In 2003 Margaret suffered a severe stroke and became a resident at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley.

All through the years the church was an important part of her life. She was an active member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church from the time they moved to Stanley until Margaret moved to Ray.

Margaret always looked forward to visiting with her children and grandchildren and they always looked forward to visiting Grandma and her tasty baking and German-Russian cooking.

Margaret is survived by: her daughters, Bernadine Logsdon, Burlington, ND, Joann (Michael) Mallory, Lowell, IN; sons, David (Pat) Walter, Sequim, WA, Leo (Violet) Walter, Ray, ND, Anton Walter, Yakima, WA, Alfred (Judy) Walter, Minot, ND, James (Doris) Walter, Stanley, ND; 110 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Mary) Streifel, Esmond; and 3 sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendelin, daughter, Mary, her parents, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.
