Marion Appelt

Marion Appelt, 100, Harvey, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.

Marion was born on June 2, 1908, on a farm four miles southeast of Anamoose. She was the daughter of William and Minnie (Farnham) Howard. She attended three years of school in Anamoose and then moved to a farm in Pierce County where she completed 8th grade. Marion attended the Anamoose High School and graduated in 1926. She then attended Minot State Teachers College for two years and received a teaching certificate. She later attended Dickinson College. Marion taught a total of 33 years with 18 1/2 of these in rural schools. She married Edward Appelt on Oct. 16, 1957, in Harvey. They lived on a farm east of Anamoose. They moved into Anamoose in 1972. He died on Sept. 4, 1982. She moved to Harvey in 1994.

Marion was a member of the Congregational Church in Anamoose and in Harvey. Marion's hobbies included gardening, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid reader. Marion was past president of the North Dakota Education Association in Dunn County. She also served as president and secretary of the Anamoose Senior Citizens and secretary of the McHenry County Council on Aging.

Marion is survived by: four stepchildren, Marion Thomssen of Harvey, Lawrence Appelt of Vancouver, Wash., Gerald Appelt of Minot, Phyllis Lemer of Valley City; 12 stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services: Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Burial: Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
