Williston property may be used for landfill
BISMARCK (AP) - Regulators say a Williston company has fulfilled its reclamation obligations for part of a leonardite mine.
North Dakota's Public Service Commission released the GeoResources company from its reclamation bond Wednesday. The bond was worth $180,000, and it covered 50 acres of property near Williston.
Commissioner Kevin Cramer says the city of Williston wants to use the land to expand its municipal landfill.
Cramer says because the property will be used for a landfill, GeoResources has to do much less reclamation work.
Leonardite is a low-grade coal used for drilling mud that helps in oil production.
