Yoga event to raise money for animal shelter

By JILL SCHRAMM, Staff Writer, jschramm@minotdailynews.com
POSTED: December 2, 2008

Two Minot yoga instructors have teamed up with the Souris Valley Animal Shelter to share the fitness art while raising money for animals.

Barbara Dickman and Megan Kruger are offering an event Saturday at Bricks Fitness that will let people in the community experience yoga in exchange for a donation to the shelter.

"As instructors, it gives us an opportunity to share our practice and to give back to the community. Both of us have found yoga to be life changing and like art, we believe it should be free, whenever possible," Kruger said.

The first session runs from 2 to 3:20 p.m. A second session runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. There may be two classes offered during each session, depending on the number of participants.

The classes are suitable for participants of any fitness level. The sessions are designed to give both newcomers a chance to try yoga as well as give more experienced participants an opportunity to deepen their practices.

Kruger has practiced yoga since 2000 and has been teaching it for more than a year. She is a group fitness instructor and personal trainer who has been teaching for six years.

Dickman is a certified physical therapist with more than 10 years of experience. She has been practicing yoga for many years and teaching for more than six months.

Both Kruger and Dickman teach yoga at the Minot Family YMCA. For more information about the yoga classes, people can call Dickman at 721-3986.
