Kenneth Christensen
June 1, 1918-Aug. 31, 2008Kenneth L. Christensen, 90, Minot, formerly of Flaxton, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, in a Minot hospital.
Kenneth was born on June 1, 1918, in Flaxton, the son of Fred and Sina (Johnson) Christensen. He was baptized and confirmed Lutheran in Flaxton. In 1936, he graduated from Flaxton High School. Kenneth started farming in 1937.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Lois M. Coons on Dec. 18, 1940. They lived on the family farm near Flaxton. Three children were born to this union: Gail, Wayne and Laurel. Kenneth always took great pride in raising and selling registered Black Angus cattle. He believed there was no such thing as a farm without horses. Through the years he had many teams of horses that were used daily for cleaning the barn, raking and hauling hay. He enjoyed saddle horses, bowling, square dancing, pool, pinochle and visiting. He enjoyed having lots of company. Kenneth enjoyed life!
Kenneth served as a director for Flaxton Farmers Union Oil Co., Flaxton Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. and was a member of the Flaxton Fire Department and United Lutheran Church, Flaxton.
They retired from farming in the fall of 1979 and moved to Minot, where he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge.
Kenneth is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Lois Christensen, Minot; daughters, Gail (LaVerne) Ingerson, Flaxton, and Laurel (Keith) Fleck, Bismarck; son, Wayne (Pat) Christensen, Flaxton; eight grandchildren, Rodney Ingerson, Sioux Falls, S.D., Randy (Linda) Ingerson, Sioux Falls, Curt (Michelle) Christensen, Liberty, Mo., Brent Christensen, Fargo, Denise (Marshall) Chrest, Bowbells, Kristina (Andy) Wells, Mandan, Chelsey Fleck, Bismarck, and Cameron Fleck, Bismarck; seven great-grandchildren, Evan and Sean Ingerson, Payton and Jayden Christensen, Mason, Brea and Maddox Chrest; and sister, Ella Undhjem, Minot.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura; and brother, Rueben.
Visitation and prayer service: Visitation today, Sept. 4, from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the chapel.
Funeral service: Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial: Friday at 3 p.m. at the Flaxton Community Cemetery, Flaxton.
