Aug. 25, 1926-July 31, 2008

POSTED: August 4, 2008

Cora Luella Debertin, 81, Minot, and formerly of rural Bergen, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008, in a Minot hospital.

Cora was born on Aug. 25, 1926, on the family farm in Odin Township of McHenry County, northeast of Bergen, to Swen and Anne (Bergstad) Fiskum. She was raised on the family farm, attended rural schools and Bergen High School prior to graduating from Velva High School. She received specialized training in secretarial studies at the Minot Business College and as a young adult she was employed at Westland Oil Co.

Cora married Everett Debertin on Oct. 15, 1950, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she continued her employment with Westland Oil. When she became a mother she elected to stay home and be a full-time wife, mother and homemaker. When the children were all in school she became the secretary at Augustana Lutheran Church prior to working at Bearman Insurance Agency. She had been coping with multiple sclerosis since 1976.

Cora was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church and its ladies organization and was a vacation Bible school teacher. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Lincoln P.T.A. and served as a Brownie troop leader. She was a big sports fan of the Twins, Vikings and local sports teams. She also enjoyed word searches and puzzles, but her number one passion was her family.

Cora's loving family includes: her husband of 57 years, Everett; children, Linda (Tim) Hoff of Burlington, Steven (Nita) Debertin of Minot, and Mollie (Jeff) Jorgensen of Minot; grandchildren, Timothy W. and Terilynn Hoff, Lisa (Dane) Fosburg and Krista Jorgensen; great-grandchild, Dylan Fosburg; brothers, Selmer of Baltimore, Kenneth of Sacramento, and Alvin of Minot; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sophie Alice Johnson; and brothers, Oliver, Melvin and Loris.
