Palmer Horace Dilland, 98, of Tioga, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Tioga Long Term Care facility.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 21, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Tioga at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga on Sunday, from 1 to 7 p.m., and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Palmer was born December 4, 1909, on the family farm south of Tioga, the son of Olaf and Anna (Gustavson) Dilland.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural schools, including the Moe School, the Wolla School in Westbank Township, and the Tioga High School. After graduating from high school in 1929 he worked on various farms until 1934 when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. He worked in the CCC at Big Fork, Minnesota, and Kenmare, North Dakota.

In 1939 he left the CCC to marry Myrtice Wolla. Following their marriage, Palmer worked on road construction for Lyle Sloan, Northern Improvement and the W.H. Noel companies.

In 1944, he and Myrtrice ran the Jones Dairy in Tioga until they bought and moved to the Carl Wolla farm south of Tioga in 1945.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the board as treasurer for over 30 years. He also served on the West Bank Township board and was a member of the Bethel Nursing Home Board for 10 years. He was also a member of the Tioga Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed life on the farm, his family, and many trips traveling with the Senior Citizens. He also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife Myrtrice; three sons, Gary (Sandi), John (Barbara), Ray (Connie); and one daughter, Joyce (Marlow Nelson); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Olive Davidson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Glenn and Alvin.
