It’s been a great eight years
As we announced earlier this week, The Minot Daily News has a new publisher, Bart Leath, who is in town getting to know the ropes and meeting residents of the city.
Today is my last day on the job. I'm retiring after today.
Looking back, I arrived in Minot about this time of the year in 2000. I was excited to be in North Dakota. When I was younger, I spent some of my best summers in Lakota helping my uncle, who owned a hotel there. I also spent some time working for a sheep shearer during those summers.
When I arrived in Minot in July 2000, I spent a lot of time meeting with local merchants and business leaders. I found them to be a very positive group.
In the past eight years, we've come a long way. The city of Minot is on the verge of breaking loose (some would say it's already happening), with new companies moving here and the oil industry expanding in our area. Minot's done all the right things to make this a great city. City leaders have begun to take charge, and I think that's something that certainly must continue.
I want to thank everyone for all the help they have given me in my eight years as publisher of The Minot Daily News. I've enjoyed my time here immensely. It's been a great run. Thank you to everyone.
