Marlys Whillock

Marlys Ann Whillock, 77, Kenmare, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, in the Kenmare hospital.


Marlys Ann was born July 25, 1930, at Sanish, the daughter of James and Marie Washburn. She was raised in the Charlson area and attended grade school there. She graduated from Watford City High School. She attended Minot State College and taught school in McKenzie County for two years. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Main Motors, Minot, where she met and married Allen Whillock, of Coulee, on Oct. 12, 1952.


They lived on the family farm until 1998, when they moved into Kenmare. She and Allen were foster parents to 29 children. She was named “Merit Mother” of the Year in 1977.


She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, where she had served as secretary for four years and belonged to Dorcas Circle. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She also served as clerk for Lowland Township for a number of years, served on the Credit Committee of Kenmare Credit Union and was a 4-H leader. She cooked at the Kenmare Hospital and then in 1986 she started cooking at the Kenmare Baptist Home until retiring in 2000.


Survivors include: Her husband, Allen, Kenmare; sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) of Kenmare, William (Judy) of Apple Valley, Minn., and Randy (Connie), Donnybrook; three grandchildren, Dusty (Jessica) Whillock, Tami (John) Ware and Katherine Whillock; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Ann, Lindsey Rae and Kendra Marie Ware; nieces and nephews; several cousins; foster children; and sister-in-law, Pearl Guinn.


She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eileen Grimestad; and brother, Lyle Washburn.


Funeral: Monday, June 23, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.


Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
