Mayme V. Boughton, 85, Mandan, N.D., formerly of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Kenmare, N.D., died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in her daughter’s home in Mandan.
Mayme Vivian Smith was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Carpio, N.D., the daughter of Leslie Ray and Minnie (Monson) Smith. She was raised in the Coulee, N.D., area and graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Allan Boughton on Nov. 12, 1943, in Minot, N.D. They made their home on the Boughton homestead in Ward County, N.D., raising three children. In 1963 they moved to Kenmare where Mayme was employed as head cook in the Kenmare school system. In 1972 they moved to Thief River Falls, where Mayme again was employed as head cook in the Thief River Falls school system until her retirement in 1994. Her husband, Allan, passed away on Sept. 28, 2003.
Mayme enjoyed gardening, flowers and dancing. Mayme was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends.
She was a member of Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe, N.D., and the ladies aid there. While living in Thief River Falls she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Mayme was also a member of Rebekah Lodge and Village Neighbors Homemakers, both in Kenmare.
Mayme is survived by three loving children, Ronald (Wilma) Boughton, Kenmare, Gary (Karen) Boughton, Dent, Minn., and Janet (K.J.) Sullivan, Mandan, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Bryce Boughton, Stacy Bjornstad, Jason Boughton, Nichole Woodman, Kristen Lund, Kara Schuster and Scott Randall; eight stepgrandchildren, John, Chris, Nathan and Matthew Wattercott and Gary Jeff, Tim and Donna Andersen; 12 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Mayme was preceded in death by her husband, Allan; her parents, Leslie Ray and Minnie Smith; brothers, Leslie and Raymond Smith and sister, Carole Swenson.
Funeral: Monday, June 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.
Visitation: Sunday (today) June 8, 2008, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, and Monday, June 9, 2008, from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
