Edna Peterson

Edna Peterson, 97, of Tioga, ND, died Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2008, at the Tioga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2008, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tioga. Pastor Assistant James Hamann will officiate and interment will be in the Zion Cemetery, Tioga. Edna Marie (Hilleren) Peterson was born February 13, 1911, to Joseph and Kari (Heggestad) Hilleren on the family homestead in Bicker Township, northeast of Tioga. She attended the country school in the lower grades and finishing in the Tioga School, graduating in 1930. She obtained her teaching certificate from Minot State College and taught school in West Bank, Equality and Outlook Townships in Divide County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church, and continued as a member of the church and the Zion Ladies Aid.


On March 12, 1937, she married Delmar Peterson at Williston, ND. They established their home on the family farm, which Delmar took over. Three children were born of this union. Delmar preceded Edna in death on March 6, 1990.


While living on the family farm, Edna served as treasurer of the West Bank School District for a number of years. She especially liked to cook, bake and tend to her plants and flowers.


Edna passed away on May 29, 2008, at the Tioga Medical Center.


She is survived by one daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Phil Becker of Tioga; three grandchildren, Delwayne and Nancy Becker of Elizabethtown, PA, Jill and Shawn Mechelke of Peachtree, GA, and Todd Dooley of Sidney, MT; six great-grandchildren, Aaron, Lila and Samuel Becker, Ben and Emma Mechelke and Jordan Dooley. Also surviving are three stepgrandchildren, Donna and Wayne Hager and their children, Lynsey and Nicole of Rugby, ND, Rynette and Dwight Lindbo and their children, Jennie and David of Mandan, ND, Lynn and Cletus Fischer and their children, Alex, Nellie and Tony of Tioga, a son-in-law, Alfred Dooley of Sidney, MT, a daughter-in-law, Marlene Peterson of Tioga, two sisters, Alice Iverson and Gladys Goedert both of Tioga and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, LaVerne; one daughter, Darlene Dooley; a brother, Norin; and two sisters, Myrtle Theodorson and Josie Hilleren.


Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga on Sunday (today) from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m, Monday from 10 a.m until noon and an hour before services at the church.
