Roland DeLong

Roland DeLong, 66, Garrison, died of cancer on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at his home under the loving care of hospice. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A vigil will be held today, May 28, at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Writing Rock Cemetery in rural Grenora.

Roland was born July 18, 1941, in Plentywood, MT, to Ralph and Mildred (Lyon) DeLong. He managed the Flaxton Farmers Union for many years. He also had his own painting business and did tree removal.

He married Betty Mahlum December 2, 1967. She died on June 22, 1985. He married Terry Graner on August 8, 1992, and they made their home in Garrison.

Roland loved to attend auction sales and flea markets and he refinished many wood antiques bringing them back to their original look.

Roland is survived by: his wife, Terry, Garrison, ND; six stepsons, Mark Mahlum, Bismarck, ND, Ronny Mahlum, Sherwood, ND, Father Tom Graner, Rugby, ND, Steve (Elaina) Graner, Bremerton, WA, Dave (Jeanette) Graner, Rockford, MN, Evan Graner, San Francisco, CA; three stepdaughters, Therese Graner, Portland, OR, Madonna (John) Meyer, Minot, ND, Paula (Travis) Bohl, Minot, ND; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Keith DeLong, Hastings, MN, Steve DeLong, Los Angeles, CA, Merle DeLong, Ponce, Puerto Rico; sisters, Janet Wade, Kenmare, ND, and Pat (Dennis) Slaaen, Grenora, ND.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Mahlum; parents, Ralph and Mildred; and one sister, Susan Miiller.
