Edward C. Schultz
April 23, 1911-May 24, 2008Edward C. Schultz, 97, Minot, formerly of Detroit Lakes, Minn., died Saturday, May 24, 2008, in a Minot hospital.
Edward was born April 23, 1911, in Detroit Lakes, to Alfred and Annie (Schoenberg) Schultz. He worked many years on the family farm. During World War II, Ed moved out to California to work in the ship yard.
On Aug. 25, 1945, Ed married the Love of his Life, Carol Lauber. They had three loving children: Richard, Tim and Patti. Ed worked for Midwest Motor Express for 32 years before retiring. During his truck driving experience, he was awarded ND Truck Driver of the Year in 1972 and was acknowledged in Time magazine.
Ed enjoyed many things in life, like bird watching, fishing, and most of all spending time in the garage working on hobbies. Ed’s passion was building scale model farm machinery, but most of all, his pride and joy was the accomplishment of building a fully operational separator. After that he started working on a fully operational steam engine. He also had a passion for baseball “Go Twins!!” Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. He was a great husband, dad, grandfather and friend. He was so loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Schultz; two children, Tim (Paula) Schultz, Federal Way, Wash., Patti (Kim) Sando, Langdon; sister, Edna Newman, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; six grandchildren, Mandi (Perry) Stagl, of Surrey, Rebecca (Scott) Martinson, Gene Schultz, Alex and Austin Schultz, all of Washington State, and David Glennon, of North Dakota; six great-grandchildren, Briana, Chad, Jessica Cole, Bailey, Preston; sister-in-law, LaVonne Lauber; and several nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Luella Disse; brother, Walter Schultz; and son, Richard Schultz.
Funeral service: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 1 p.m., in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today from 2 to 7 p.m., in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
