Flat Iron building draws interest from several sources

Three entities are showing interest in possibly preserving Minot’s Flat Iron Building, located at the corner of Broadway and Central Avenue.

The Minot Public Works Department is developing specifications to rebid demolition of the building and plans to make a report to the council at the end of June.

Meanwhile, the Creative Restoration Co., a local coalition whose spokeswoman has been Deb Carroll, has offered to buy the building for $16,127, the price the city paid for it a year ago. It has presented a proposal to restore the building. The group is an affiliate of Preservation North Dakota.

Project Angel, a development firm in Arkansas, also wants to look at the building for refurbishing and restoration, according to the public works department. The firm needs three to six months to evaluate the project.

An architectural engineering firm has an investor interested in the building and expects to have a proposal by the time the second demolition bids are presented to the council.

The city received only one bid for demolishing the building when it bid the project earlier this year. The bid came to $326,381. The city is rewriting the bid specifications to try to reduce the cost.
