The burn ban also was lifted in other counties as well, including Mountrail and Renville. The burn bans in Mountrail and Renville counties also were in effect temporarily until further notice, officials in those counties said.
“We lifted it as soon as we could, and that’s where we’re at right now. We appear to have sufficient moisture at this time to lift the ban,” said Ward County board chairman Carroll Erickson.
The ban was lifted because of the increased precipitation in the area. Minot received .36 in precipitation Saturday. The area also received rain and snowfall Friday.
“Hopefully, the rain will continue and we won’t have to worry about it anymore. We hope that this will allow the people to get done what they need to get done,” Erickson said.
Ward County’s burn ban went into effect April 15 when commissioners declared a fire emergency because of the explosively dry conditions in the county.
On April 19, there were two major fires in the Minot area, the Trestle Valley fire west of Minot and the Eastside Estates fire east of the city. Two homes were destroyed in the Trestle Valley fire. The Trestle Valley fire was caused by the spark from a train; the cause of the Eastside Estates fire has not been determined, officials said.
