Pay tribute today

May 26, 2014

It sometimes is suggested the description “hero” is used too freely and often inappropriately. Certainly, to give true heroes their due, that may be open to debate. But not today....

From whom did you copy and paste that from Garr? You in your haste even forgot one quotation mark and period.

MBHDIOF,

It really is a day to remember and celebrate all people for whatever reason that decided to serve for all of us who have decided not to. I don't believe this is political because when they were landing on Normandy we didn't have anyone doing a political party check."

I don't disagree, but that was back in the days when the real America still existed. In the country we live in now, everything is partisan and everything had been politicized

I'm not from the days of Normandy but I can still remember what it was like to represent the real America. It has changed quickly and at the present rate I'm glad I won't be around to see anymore. I have hope but fear for the worst.

"ABC broadcast network had a documentary movie 'The Path To 9-11' that felt Clinton bore the responsibility of 9-11."

Yes, since Bush was the one who was president when 9/11 happened, and it was he who ignored the Aug 6th terrorist warning and instead went on one of his month long vacations down at the Crawdad Ranch, it must be Clinton's fault since Bush's entire first term was Clinton's fault.

But, then again, I feel, or think I feel, or feel I think, it must be Obama's fault since Obama is to blame for everything. At least that's what some say.

willygarrcanook,

If you have to go back to the Nixon era to justify the policies and practices used in obamanation that's a stretch. As stupid as that may be I encourage you to continue along that line of thinking. It shows the desperation that's setting in.

"some photo ops, trying to appear as if he cares about the "troops" after another disaster of a week."

"Mission Accomplished" displayed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during a televised address by United States President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003"

This what you're talking about Ruski?

You're also right about that "another disaster of the" decade/century so much so that a new report came out over the weekend.....

The diversity & the apparent numbers majority the Democrats have experienced in the last two Presidential elections were a result of somewhat apathetic voters who JUST DIDN'T LIKE the administration from 2001-2008.....

I can't imagine why not.....

Good to see the socialist progressive clown posting their political drivel on Memorial day. I'd have been so disappointed otherwise. I'd be remiss if I didn't give "props" to burrock insane oblamer for "outing the CIA station chief in Afghanistan by "mistake" and for flying about 7,000 miles each way for some photo ops, trying to appear as if he cares about the "troops" after another disaster of a week. Then to read that the President of Afghanistan told poor lil barry to pound sand on meeting with him is PRICELESS. Do you spose lil barry will cut off some of the millions of dollars the USA sends to Afghanistan? I heard the term "incompetent keystone cops" applied to the entire regime. GOOD JOB, burrock!!!!!

"I'm a loyal democrat but I will remind everyone that LBJ, a democratic president got us into Viet Nam and RMN, a republican president got us out."

While it's totally true that Democrat LBJ got us into 'Nam, Nixon actually prolonged the war for 5 years. By the time he ran for office in 1968, it was way beyond obvious that it was time to get out, and even though he campaigned on a "secret plan" to get us out, he kept us there until the political pressure and anti-war demonstrations forced him to end the draft and later end the war.

Nixon was a low life criminal, and he deserves no credit for getting us out of 'Nam. The anti-war movement is what got us out.

I'm a loyal democrat but I will remind everyone that LBJ, a democratic president got us into Viet Nam and RMN, a republican president got us out. Many people don't realize or never knew what an awful mess that war was. I enlisted at 17 and a week after my 18th birthday I got a draft notice. I keep seeing the number of deaths in Viet Nam as over 58000 and that doesn't take into account the suicides due to PTSD which wasn't readily recognized at the end of that war and how about the deaths related to Agent Orange. If they were counted the number would probably be over 100,000. So if we look at who is responsible for war, both democrats and republicans are.

The far right, Republican MDN has spent each and every day of the last year running down our nation's Commander-in-Chief.

Far from supporting our troops, this newspaper has done nothing but bash, berate and rhetorically bomb America's military through a relentless campaign against its Commander.

But, now suddenly, on Memorial Day the MDN would like to appear patriotic and loyal. It won't work, because I have 364 days of evidence that prove differently.

This Memorial Day, we must not only remember the brave deeds of our heroes -- we must also vow to never forget the evil done by America's enemies.

Today is a day to remember how many soldiers were sent into harms way for fallacious reasons by people who either DESERTED their military duty, or dodged the draft during the Vietnam War which they were strongly in favor of.

The reason we need to do this is so that we can learn a lesson, and prevent more Republican atrocities. This hogwash about keeping politics out of it is just another way of right wingers trying to avoid that ugly topic. Republicans are absolutely pathetic in how they send other people's kids to war, and then wave the flag and preach about honor and duty on Memorial Day.

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place, and in the sky,

The larks, still bravely singing, fly,

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high!

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.
