I wonder if all parties concerned in the "Budapest Memorandum" are pleased with the results of Ukraine giving up their armaments.

cnn . com/2014/03/04/opinion/pifer-ukraine-budapest-memorandum/

"Steven Pifer, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, is a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine and helped negotiate the Budapest Memorandum."

"A strong response is important for settling Ukraine's current crisis. It also matters for the cause of nuclear nonproliferation. Security assurances were key to bringing Kiev to agree to get rid of its nuclear arms. If Washington and London do not stand by the Budapest Memorandum now, it would discredit the idea of such assurances. That would be unfortunate, as security assurances could play a role in defusing nuclear proliferation cases, such as Iran."

Perhaps HAetc should explain what he thinks "gutting the military" would entail. Only 100,000 soldiers left? Is that a "gutting?" How about 10,000 soldiers left? Does that qualify? Perhaps we should have no soldiers left and "just give peace a chance."

"I'm still waiting for Mutant Skinhead or any of the other right wing foreign policy experts to tell us exactly what THEY would do in the Ukraine situation."

At this point I would consider Jimmy Carter a foreign policy expert relative to the amateur we have in office now. But here's a start. It's not what we would do, it's what we wouldn't do, and that would include NOT gutting the military.

All I know is that I rather have the republicans telling all the lies about the elected democratic party than the other way around about all the republican losers.Goinpeace

U can b sure putin knows who was Pres. when bin laden took a swim. B2 praised putin. I am confident our Pres. will handle this correctly with the help of the civilized world. B sure putin is looking over his shoulder because President Obama is not weak in his communist mind.

In addition to a trophy wife, putin has found many to love in our republican party who have blasted our president for over 6 years. Ted nugent would b a special friend. Putin may be brave now because so many here r political losers and not patriots.

"If the republicans were in charge, we would have forces in Libya, Syria, all out war in Iran, and maybe a few other places just before going into the Ukraine. More military dead and all to appease the war mongering Republican military establishment."

Idle speculation at best. Where are the facts concerning this bloviation?

Yep, there is a lot to be thankful for, especially for our military soldiers. Let me the see, If the republicans were in charge, we would have forces in Libya, Syria, all out war in Iran, and maybe a few other places just before going into the Ukraine. More military dead and all to appease the war mongering Republican military establishment. Would we go into the Ukraine, like Bush/Reagan did in Georgia/Poland/Czech/anywhere else. Oh, that's right, they did not. Say, are there any WMD's in the Ukraine? Call Cheney, Call Bush, Call Rumsfeld, they will know. For sure this time????

Yep, who would have thought that the MDN (Minot Daily Nazi) would be rooting for Putin and Russia and against the USA. As if the right has any clues or ideas that would have ended up with any other outcome.

gip's correct for once: lefty losers don't need no help from righties.

It was good enough for Obamacare - it'll be good enough for foreign policy.

land grab? there was no land grabbed by us during Bush/Cheney. And I agree, Obama needs no help looking bad. he's a community organizer pretending to be president. He's in so far over his head it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Obama/Biden painted us into a corner????

Bush/Cheney have done far worse to tie our hands. How can we complain about Russia when we are guilty of the same land grab?

They didn't even think of a strategy, so it would be impossible to rethink a strategy.

Russia's strategy works better than anything. They used armaments and military force, and the strategy worked just as planned.
