I agree with @WarmWeather: this system wouldn't be that difficult to implement. Also @Disgusted your comment is like saying that we shouldn't have the government put in sidewalks or crosswalks because it's OUR job to keep our children out of the streets. There are ways to work together in the community to help ensure our kids' safety, and this could be one of the .

Whatever happened to teaching them to stay away from strangers, scream and run like the wind is what they need to be taught to do.

Yet another one who believes that parents are not responsible for their children, only the government can take care of them. How sad.

If Mrs West is willing to pony up the cash or time to pay for her idea, have at it. Otherwise, forget it.

Or we could all go back to where we were from and all be happy and safe again.

Yes it's a great idea I believe as for the schools being a neighborhood system...half assed job to be honest......just like the MarketPlaces could have been a neighborhood concept at one type but they didn't see the vision all the way through.....To be a neighborhood concept you need true huge named subdivisions like they do in bigger cities and have the schools within the subdivisions...Spring Texas is a great example...Memorial Northwest had Theiss Elementary and Doerre Middle School where the kids could walk everyday to school......Plano Texas the same way in West Plano Hughston Elementary the kids could walk every day........So, I think Minot is too small but they could figure out the elementary school part a little bit better though.....

Don't drop yours till the door is open and be there 4 pickup when the door opens. No system is fail proof; ours is working and maybe because we don't look aside or run from trouble--we act and especially when it involves children.

Not a bad idea, but the biggest problem is that the schools were built with a neighborhood school concept with means they were not design for the increase in traffic around the school. To me the biggest safety problem is the number of vehicles around a school and waiting for the right car to show up might cause more traffic concerns. The printing of cards with a designate number on it is a cheap way to help improve student safety. I suggest Mrs West contact the school district (Transportation Department) and she if they would do a pilot program on her suggestion. I'm sure anything to improve safety would be welcome.
