No. 9 Duluth blows out Minot State

October 20, 2013

DULUTH, Minn. — Two offensive plays for two yards and two touchdowns, two minutes into the game. That’s how No. 9 Minnesota Duluth’s romp — and Minot State’s nightmare — began Saturday at James S....

Anyway, I have to say I completely agree with Can Our Voices Be Heard and MSUFAN. The talent is there. We have seen some of these guys actually perform. Use them. Use your strengths. My personal two cents is when we get a 4 - 6 yrd pass completion isnt that as good as a run? We look for the long ball perhaps to much. The middle is OPEN. I know we need the run to set the pass game up but as was said earlier our backs unfortunately fumble alot. OL PROTECT the QB for heaven sake. I watch alot of D 2 football and we do have a good QB and as said earlier arguably two of the best receivers in D 2. Use them. And if our kicking game is going to continue to suffer, then go for it on 4th down. At this stage of the season the Beavers have nothing to lose. Play new guys and (players recruited) see who has the heart to play and not just be there to wear the shirt.

MSU fan makes valid points. we are all arm chair QB's and trust me its time for a change in leadership. I think the talent is right there in front of them its how the game plan and prepare. im not impressed with the turnovers by the running backs either. great thread today

As for expensive living there. STOP. There is no out of state tuition and it is one of the least expensive D2 schools around. Yes we need more dorms and living quarters for students. However, the University capacity is 5000 - 6000 students. I believe there is only around 3500 students because of the lack of dorms. As for Coaches its expensive for them with the low wages. The University need to address this. Perhaps living quarters for them on campus. Just a thought. Sorry to have ranted so much but we are disappointed parents who want to see this team at least compete.

Coach Rudolph said himself we have WR's who can compete. Why do we not get the ball to TE Bonsue a little more. Wayne and in particular ladeux need to be used more. Wayne is a shifty player, moves well. Why don't we use him as a receiving back? ladeux Doesn't drop it, not afraid of the middle and certainly proved his speed yesterday with that saving tackle that looked to be a certain TD. You brought him in now use him. Arguably the best two WR's in the league. Sturm is another WR who is not bad. Why don't we have Cuna in shotgun more put backs in to protect Cuna more so he can throw to these guys. The line obviously need help.

I will try to say this constructively. I do not pretend to know everything either but I go to the games and know what I see on a weekly basis.

Rudolph is a stand up guy,and a good coach. However, some of his new staff play favorites and not the guys are better. New guys were recruited because the other players were not good enough. Well, play the newly recruited players.

Starting with Special Teams. We (Parents who go to the games every week)know your kicker from last year is recovering from injury so it looks like our kicking game will suffer until next season.

Defense: Fundamentals as some one mention earlier is right. Why are the Beavers talking so high up. Do they not know how to wrap up? Why are we not playing with a QB spy? Kewon Tapp perhaps. Why do are corners not press?Broome/Friedt/Burchert and a few others should be capable. Offense: Have the running backs walk all week with a ball in their hands. Our QB Cuna can throw.

@myvoice Make all the excuses you want, but the goal of a D2 athletic program is to win and be competitive. The change in the basketball program was for the better. We missed an excellent candidate the first time, but coach Murken is an excellent coach and we were lucky to get him. To be honest, I don't want coaches that want to stay here as this is division 2. I want coaches that want to win and move on to greener pastures of D1 athletics. What I want is competitive programs that compete at or near the top of the NSIC. Maybe we need to put more money into housing on campus instead of a press box? I don't claim to "know everything", but I know the current program is in shambles.

I cant say I disagree with my voice is heard. so whos fault is it that the college pushed so hard to jump to div2. at some point sometime a change has to be made. a new staff may not be the answer but that's where most top colleges do in these situations. I like our head coach he seems like a stand up guy. if anyone that has made a comment here has seen any of the games the team lacks basic fundamentals and discipline when it comes to there performance on the field. I'm a beaver fan and attend every sporting event I can. Basketball coach was replaced last year with a instate rival coach and he has already made a impact. it can be done and I bet it will be, maybe not this year but if it starts like this next year a change should be made.

I disagree with all of you. We have lost a basketball coach and a golf coach since joining division II athletics. It has to do with support. MONEY. Since you guys know everything, I want to see where we stand in scholoarships in football in comparison to other schools in our conference. The rent is very high in this town as well and there is no room for living in the dorms on campus. It is very expensive to live here. HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GOING TO GET COACHES TO BE ABLE TO LIVE HERE AND ATHLETES TO COME HERE. I for one am not going to make change in coaches when the problem is financial and demographics. I know someone can find out that information.

I listen to fuller on the radio last week. he seems to think this should take time. well how long do we have to wait. this coaching staff struggled in the NAIA, and now in division 2 its even worse. I listened to the game and scott catell said he had never seen 4 turn overs in one quarter before. the defense don't have a chance with turn overs. fuller is gone after this year maybe someone will come in and clean house.

This is getting embarrassing. I know Duluth is a very tough team, but come on. How many more losing seasons before something changes? How much have we poured into facilities? Thank God basketball is starting where at least we are competitive.
