really sad that the Minot Daily writers do not know this, but here goes: OMB ordered federal agencies to determine essential and non-essential prior to the right-wing shutdown. Essential remain working w/o pay. Non-essential go home. Military is funded because Congress passed a law and the President signed it. Evidently football players are part of the military. The determination was all made before the shutdown and the President certainly didn't decide to inflict pain. Only people not ignorantly blinded by partisanship can see this though. Good job Minot Daily News. May I recommend several great optometrists practicing here in Minot?

Dictionary dot com defines the word essential.

Obama is superfluous, the gov will continue with or without him, and, with any amount of luck, he will be replaced within the hour.

As a general rule, if there's a gun involved, you're essential.

now you ask the question after you have blamed the President for all these days? non-essential are those not necessary for the protection of Fed. resources and not needed for the temporary safety and security of the country. agency heads and NOT the president, determine who is non-essential in their agency. Parks and recreation are very clearly non-essential. in a city essential would be the minimum of hospital, food stores, police and fire protection, water plant, sewer and the min. of administration to assure the forementioned are adequate for safety and security. non-essential would be all sports, parks, street and grounds maint., all outreach like MADC and most city admin. at MAFB for example, there are probably 50 to 100 separate operations where this decision must be made. do the math nationwide and you can see no Pres. would never have the time to make these descisions now the right can take back the accusations. yea right!

options are extensive days off, war mongering and all behavior of shooter OR golf--the majority of voters chose golf--twice. next option will be t party or sanity--bet sanity wins no matter how much money is in t party pockets--the beauty of 1 person, 1 vote. this level of political unrest will usually expose a scandal. hmm?

Yes -- and ironically -- you're also expendable.

Maybe if Obama, and everyone that is so important would follow the law of the land, sign up for Obamacare, things would get going again. I suggest you listen to Dave Ramsey on math, and the law of the land.

The Tea partisans define what's essential. They've defined the U.S. government as non-essential.

Needless to say, it's not a very popular notion. Three out of four Americans have decided the TP should be flushed down the toilet.

Sen. Harry Reid thinks HE should define what is essential in any bill the House comes up with...

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Tuesday (oct. 15) that an alternative debt limit and government funding plan promoted by conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives could not win approval in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

"Reid said the plan, which was discussed at a House Republican meeting on Tuesdays morning, was "an extreme piece of legislation and it's nothing more than a blatant attack on bipartisanship.""

Sen. Harry Reid is a one-man party of NO

Sen. Harry Reid is holding the entire Senate hostage by HIS demands

Bring it to a vote, Sen. Reid!

Yep, bdgi, the Republicans are speaking for the people... Yep, 70% or more wanted registration on guns but did they listen..NOOOOO. 72% don't want a government shutdown for changes in obamacare. Did the Republicans listen??? NOOOOOOO. The party of the right wing will depart from the political scene with ted cruz as their leader. Now that is great... the second coming of Joe McCarthy is here and he is a right winger. You all should be proud of that, loco, dusty, bdgi, animal, and the rest. What a crazy you have there. Good bye , republican party. oh, and take that loser, Boehnor with you. Remember, he needs to be kept under the sun lamp or he will turn white.

back to article: waterfowl production areas are not typically vandalized and do not require a fulltime monitor. parks are vandalized and abused routinely and must be monitored so wpa's can reopen. the lincoln memorial was vandalized a short time ago. side note: when boehner and Pres are shown side by side--boehner has darker skin--well dark orange. MAFB had to cx the custodial contract from shutdown or sequester--includes their toilet paper suply, now workers bring their own. tp can joke all they want about the cuts--the real world is a different story. there are many cuts that would be quite painless but the military industrial complex would feel the pinch--therefore they lobby to prevent those cuts. i say let's come home from places like bengazi. we could eavesdrop on what goes on there instead. ever hear a red suggest that? Why does the military have ball teams anyway? too much money--thats why.

Why Whistler, they only double talk like Obama does. Why should I listen to Legend? My first house, was 10 1/2 %, There was a Democrat in Office, at least in North Dakota, was in "75". I am going to listen to Dave Ramsey, who calmly puts it out for people that want to hear it. I see their name, don't read their post's.

The average murk an sheep will once again be fleeced, completely shorn and wall street will do the fleecing and congress will make sure the sheep are sheared.

Groundhog day for the gov shutdown. Obombacare will be a jackboot on your throat forever, it is more Orwellian than Orwellian.
