October 13, 2013

David Aas, Minot It is quite fashionable for the media to be blaming the recalcitrant House Republicans for the current turmoil that we are seeing in Washington D.C....

Well, on we go to Dec. 13th.

Have fun "compromising" and "negotiating" while agreeing to cut spending, everyone!

Sen. Harry Reid:

"I am convinced that I do not want to give up more power to the White House, whether it's George Bush or Barack Obama. And I'm going to fight as hard as I can against President Obama on these earmarks and my Republican colleagues who hate to vote for them, but love to get them."

"This nation has been through hard times. But those hard times have hardened our resolve. I'm ready to do the difficult work ahead. But I want to do that work with Barack Obama, and not a Tea Party ideologue. We can move America forward, but we can only do it together."

Rep. Nancy Pelosi:

"Bipartisanship is nice, but it cannot be a substitute for action, not having it cannot prevent us from going forward."

"Jobs are central to the American dream - and President Obama has focused on jobs from day one."

Why would I find a quote, statement or campaign promise from any Democrat to cut spending?

Pres. Barack Obama:

"I think when you spread the wealth around it's good for everybody."

"We want everybody to act like adults, quit playing games, realize that it's not just my way or the highway."

"In the mid 80's we had the misfortune to need foodstamps, wic and food pantry. I was laid off from a job that paid me low 40's and I couldn't get a job for $3.65 an hour. One day my wife came to me excited that we had received our foodstamps in the mail and wanted to go to the grocery store. I told her that I couldn't go with her and to this day it still bring tears to my eyes. I got my hand up that I needed and have not needed it since."

ndvetrn, our family had a similar experience in the late '80s (needing assistance) and it wasn't "easy" for us either. Thank God things turned around and we've been able to fend for ourselves, with help from God, ever since then.

Thanks again for your service.

Each and every event, disaster declaration, press conference, etc., in DC would qualify for this...

"We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain."

EVERYTHING in DC is political, period. Don't act naive about it.

Here's the lefty narrative on "political gain"...

When the lefties do it, it's all sweetness and light. When the righties do it, it's diabolical and mean-spirited. Yeah, yeah, we get it.

Political hucksters remain political hucksters, no matter if lefties, righties, or in-betweenies, and faux outrage isn't becoming in anyone.

A disgrace? Really. How about you and your cronies(loco is an exception to the rule)typical verbal attacks. Derogatory comments all over the place. Your use of the extra "s" on Veritas' handle does not belong in blogs. Neither does the term "comrade" or other nefarious terms that seem to be the staple of those who have no facts. Rumor and falsehoods are a daily part of your blogs. It is always easy to spot the wingers on the blog by the use of their putdowns. Yep, you certainly have the intellectual prowess that we hear winger rely on. When you have no argument or facts, just rant, rave and spread your hatred and prejudices. Good job, boys.

if Obama was an emperor, the t party would be pilots, flying suicide missions to somewhere like--lets say bengazi. having said that, i wish he could be an emperor for a bit. bush's iraq--no there is the behavior of an emperor, jumping to his brains commander--cheney. "I will be 4 this war if it is only laura and i that are 4 this war". emperor talk.

how does the writer feel about our state ignoring the needs of western nd cities. holding billions in oil tax revenue and sales tax revenue, they have given scraps to the western cities for school and infrastructure needs all caused by oil. oil is costing minot homeowners about $2,000 per year in increased taxes and cost of services. you need to get your story straight because this is a republican state. no democrat ever did this to me in 60 years.

Legend,

Help me out on this one. Has the democratic strategy worked on this one for the last five years?

this article defies history--search presidents and spending. dems hold the high ground on improving the economy--Bill Clinton's record for example. dems promote jobs; the key to our economy. the more people working, the more the economy is driven upward and the more taxes go to the Government."tax and spend" is a 40 year old republican lie. they also say they support jobs and the working class--2 more lies. look at this red state and red city. we were so stale we hardly noticed the 08 recession--because we had so little to lose. we just existed with all of our repubican control. i like to think like a republican but their profuse lies keep me away. 6 years of lies about Obama and what of it is true

Willgarr,

If you want to know who I am all you had to do is ask. When I was discharged from the military I came home to my beloved state of North Dakota and met the love of my life. To this date we have been married 34 years and have five adult children. It's always been a challenge, but somehow we have managed to succeed. In the mid 80's we had the misfortune to need foodstamps, wic and food pantry. I was laid off from a job that paid me low 40's and I couldn't get a job for $3.65 an hour. One day my wife came to me excited that we had received our foodstamps in the mail and wanted to go to the grocery store. the tea party are all mercenaries--bought by some of the richest Americans. their marching orders are to hate the Government, rip it up, tear it down and spit it out. They are to obstruct everything Obama attempts to do. All of their policies are to protect the wealth of the richest and allow unlimited defacing and polution of our country. now they have the country including non-t party republicans at bay and you blame Obama. there is no such radical faction in the democratic party. Dems are not under contract to vote for their handlers. pimps do not own them.

Rugby,

Did I hit a nerve? I've never professed to be a republican. My only concern is how this country has declined under President Obama. You of all people as an educator should know the power of debate and compromise. My concern is that this so called President will not talk with our elected representatives. No marine I have ever known would accept the disrespectful treatment of any veteran that this President has exhibited.

So it's the Democrats' way or the highway? I think that's what we've been hearing in DC for quite some time now. Very grownup...

We can do this in a bi-partisan and way and do a recall election for both. I'm ok with that

President Obama is doing an OK job and the fact the Senator Heitkamp has chosen to vote with common sense, shows the people of North Dakota that she represents us. I would encourage and support a recall of Congressman Kevin Cramer
