For real Minoters (like me, despite moving away, my 18 years spent there mean I'm just as much a home town boy as Josh Duhamel) this should make sense: the land was donated by the family of George Chumas, late proprietor of the Minot Food store. George was the embodiment of the American Dream, coming from Greece with his wife and raising a wonderful family. The Chumas' were the nicest people you could hope to meet, and George was the greatest. I had heard from family that there was some article in the MDN a few years ago "buying a name" where the author didn't seem to realize how important a figure George was in Minot and how so many people still miss him and his store, despite more than a decade passing since it's closure...the building should reflect George's memory and his contributions to Minot
