Building an event center in the flood plain makes no sense. It just adds misery to an already problematic area. There are also few hotels and eating places out by the fair grounds. Why build there?

Pioneer village is a good fit on the fairgrounds. It takes so little space it is hard to understand why Hostefest--i mean the state fair, wants them to move. Building a new event center in the flood plain is a total lack of respect for our tax money. The new water treatment plant and grandstand had to diked for the 2011 flood. Tax money paid for the dikes.

Question: How come the state fair board isn't asking the Nodak Speedway to relocate? It would be a relief not to hear those roaring engines on Sunday night before I have to wake up on Monday morning. How come the Nodak Speedway has more sway and power than the Ward County Historical Society? Money talks.

If anything, the state fair board should be asking the Ward County Historical Society to stay and give them the help they really need.

A new state fair center located out of the flood plain is the the ideal plan, but you can't fight city hall and the powers that be at the state fair are going to call all of the shots, so it is a cinch that the Ward County Historical Society is going to move, er, be forced to move, and a new state fair center will be built in the flood plain. Stupid is as stupid does.

The Ward County Historical Society's Pioneer Village move to a new location is a blessing in disguise.
