Better that raising the taxes, don't you feel, along with me, that we can save lives and save the government all that money in medical costs....

Better living through high taxation. It really should be what we all strive for. I wonder if Valerie's job as a "Public Healthcare Advocate" is funded through tobacco taxes and tobacco settlement money.

We are indeed fortunate to have people like Valerie looking out for us. However, I think her focus is much too narrow. After all, North Dakota needs to be much more proactive in all areas of preventative medicine. We shouldn't just be following Minnesota's lead. We should lead by example!

For this reason, I challenge each and every person reading this to think of just one public health threat, and submit a comment about how that threat could be mitigated through high taxation. Be creative! Taxation should be fun.

Tax me! Tax me! Tax me! Scene 1... It's 1972, the towns people have gathered in their small civic hall. The mayor has taken the podium. He's wearing a well worn suit jacket and has a cigar burning in his hand. The first words across his lips are "Who would like more taxes?" followed by "A show of hands please!" As the crowd fell silent and the room was scanned all hands were down when little Valerie began raising her hand high! Tax me! Tax me! Tax me!
