Well, I'm into hammering when it's called for, like putting up siding, or constructing a bookshelf, or especially when trying to make a point.

The hammer in my junk drawer has painted flowers on it, so everyone knows that it's mine.

Veritas, I'm not neglecting your frustration and disgust, but how are the tax laws of this country to be changed to benefit US people and US business in our now global economy?

Because the politicians make those tax laws, they are the first place to make a stink. Supposedly, they have constituencies to answer to (you, me, etc).

I'd say make a case with your elected officials and/or those responsible for codifying tax law (committees, etc) and let them all know that you're not happy with the current situation (to say the least).

Go for it! You'd probably get more traction with the pols than just posting here on little ol' MDN.

And if you've already been hammering on your elected officials, good on ya!

DustOff, I found a 1959 article (now pdf) by an E.G. Keith posted on Duke University's website.

I read bits & pieces, but taxing authorities seemed more cognizant/ understanding of the risks that small business owners were taking in the startup and operation of their enterprises.

It's a great historical read on the philosophy of taxing small businesses in 1950's USA. "The Impact of Taxation on Small Business"

scholarship . law . duke . edu/cgi/

And you're right. Our economy is already competing globally, whether all will acknowledge that or not. It's a different world now.

Keeping US business taxes high, while other countries' taxes are lower, doesn't serve the US well. It lessens our businesses' competitive edge.

People usually start businesses to make a profit, not to pursue an altruistic path by voluntarily paying more taxes to a gov't enamored with redistribution of wealth.

Sorry, but like they say on Shark Tank, I'm out.

Isn't there room for Microsoft, Dell, or others? Surely they have engaged in similar business practices?

"Corporate CEOs are raiding and draining traditional pension plans for millions of workers who are left without their expected and earned pension payments on retirement."

I can go one better than Veritas...

"WASHINGTON, Feb. 3, 2013 ? The $19.4 trillion sitting in personal retirement accounts like the 401K may be too tempting an apple for a government that is quite broke, both monetarily and morally. The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director Richard Cordray recently mentioned these accounts in a recent interview, stating “That’s one of the things we’ve been exploring and are interested in, in terms of whether and what authority we have.”

"This agency, created by the 2010 Dodd-Frank-Act, is very concerned about how safe your retirement savings are."

I'll bet that agency is concerned.

If somebody's opinions aren't your cup of tea, Veritas, then let them steep in them. (Puns intended.)

Your absolute disgust and disdain for others' opinions doesn't really win others to your point of view.

Unless disdain and disgust is the goal...then I'd say you're achieving in a mighty way.

What is it that DustOff says? "Winning hearts and minds?"

Are any in the Tea Party worth it to you, Veritas?

Statements by President Barack Obama

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

"I will cut taxes - cut taxes - for 95 percent of all working families, because, in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class."

"I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

There's more...

Dusty, you are something else. You parrot what libs say and you just chuckle?? What is "really" funny is that on almost all the topics, you bring it up time after time and most always first. Then, you don't remember and claim that you are just mimicking libs. You aren't, dummy, you are parroting yourself. Now that is funny.

I wonder if Heller is adding a provision to stop the 40 Billion dollar subsidies for Big oil... They might need that with the sham of raising gas prices 60 cents in two weeks. Another responsible piece of legislation by dip stick Republicans. Maybe he could cut some more funds from The overseas embassy protection funds as well.

So I suppose the news about the IRS experiencing more cuts will not set well with centerish. Aww...

"Sen. Dean Heller said Tuesday he will seek to cut off funding for new (IRS) agents following disclosure the agency targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

"The bill Heller said he plans to introduce this week would serve two purposes. It would allow him to express his unhappiness over the IRS scandal, while also striking a blow against the Affordable Care Act that he opposes.

"Heller said the bill would refuse $440 million for the IRS to hire more agents to help carry out the health care overhaul law."

Lets talk about the IRS. Incontrovertable evidence???? Bull durum. The only applicant that was denied status was a liberal group. The number of applicants from right wing groups was huge compared to liberal groups. Since the IRS has been cut in funding and manpower in large amounts over the years-Mostly from cuts initiated by the Repubs(as was security funding for foreign embassys ) The back log was huge. Well, this editorial from MDS is as yellow as journalism can be. Incontrovertable-- Bull. So, has Karl Rove's group been on social items, well, no. But lets not dwell on breaking the laws because we know these right wing groups would never break the law for political advantage, now would they.
