Sharing the dough

April 13, 2013

Hope Village was wondering where the money would come from to hire a food services director and feed its volunteers this summer when a local restaurant company made an unexpected offer....

Not trying to be a butt head here but isn't the Hope Village about volunteerism? You would think some of the volunteers could cook up some rations a couple times a day, stay thrifty and keep making a positive difference would be best. Watch how you spend the donation monies or the donations will stop. Without Hope Village Minot has done nothing but fight over money. Keep up the good work all of you and don't be dragged down because you deserve more recognition that you get. Your greatest rewards are felt in your own minds and bodies. Many Prayers of thanks to you Hope Village.

Early, while I agree with you, it is a whole different story in food service. Once you start serving food to private citizens you get so deep into laws, inspections, paperwork, etc. This would surely have to be a paid position to get the right person that is qualified for the job. Even in the Army, the only people cooking are school qualified cooks, KP's are washing dishes, clearing tables, etc. All has to do with food poisoning and lawsuits.

73Hockey, maybe we need to forget how sophistcated we have become and dig in. I'm not tryimg to be mean but the stuff you describe is part of the mire that hold progress back. I bet there are some of the best cooks you could find right there that would fill crock pots with beef stew or chicken and rice or ham and bean soup. Sometimes we need to stop going down roads that lead nowhere. Thanks though and if I was politically correct I could agree with 100%.
