Earlybird, no one is forcing you to pay those taxes. You don't vote on them because they are not applied to your local area. If you don't want to pay them, you can choose to shop in your area.

Regarding the Magic Fund, they ARE recognizing that in Minot's current situation not as much economic development funding is needed. That is why they want to reallocate the current sales tax money from 40% of it being applied to economic development to 15% being applied to economic development.

The fund isn't worth it. And why are we using MAGIC Fund monies to pay Odney for economic development/public relations when the city hired a Public Information Officer to do this same research and such. I think that's a waste of tax payer dollars in itself. In addition, conflict of interest is prevelant with Odney and the people that work with them and the MADC, CHamber and so forth. There are many more business people here in Minot now and it's time to pass the buck.

The MAGIC Fund currently has a balance of about $5.5 million. Which this fund was originally voted on years ago to bring new businesses into Minot. It is no longer needed! Now the city is using these funds for other purposes for which they were not intended to be used for. I say discontinue the fund! It is now being uses as a "City Slush Fund".

Do I get to vote on this tax, I don't live in Minot. It is taxation without representation if we are not allowed to vote but have to pay the tax. Back when Heitcamp was Attorney General she told me the only way out of paying taxes we don't get to vote on is by not going to the places that charge a surcharge to shop in their community.
