The North Dakota University System does need strong management and oversight to prevent incidents such as the diploma mill at Dickinson State University. Naturally the presidents resent this intrusion upon their absolute authority and are working to drive out this chancellor as the did the previous one. I hope that the legislature doesn't wimp out and eliminate the needed oversight.

Shirvani has caused serious trouble every place he's ever worked, with nothing good to show for it. He has no regard for our state or its people. NDUS students and ND taxpayers deserve far, far better.

As a current student at MSU, and as someone who attended a student meeting held by the SGA about this plan, I completely support what the SGA is doing. MSU should not be punished because of the actions of Dickinson State. This plan is being shoved down unwilling throats, and only brings bad to our system. NDUS needs oversight and management, but not in this way.

The stupidity of an agreed $600,000 buy-out after just 7 months work is not on the side of the Chancellor.

It is sad how the President of Minot State, other institutions and certain legislators or using the students to prevent stronger oversight and accountability. It is the same institutions that push to remove Chancellor Potts when he tried to reign in the excesses of the institutions. I will not say the students are naive but they have definitely influenced by people with a hidden agenda.

What were the basis for the vote. From what I heard some were upset he missed the NDSA retreat, some wanted him to override the actions of a local campus president. Those really rise to a high level of incompetence.

President Fuller and members of his administration have been lobbying students heavily to speak out against the Chancellor and his efforts to raise quality and accountability at the institution. My daughter who attends Minot State told me I would not believe the level of effort to influence students at MSU.

Very sad for our state and institution.

As a student of Minot State and member of Minot State University's Student Government Association I invite all interested students to attend any SGA meetings, as they are open to all MSU Students. As a senate we have acted upon relevant and studied issues brought to our governing model by Minot students, and will stand by our delegations final votes. I challenge any and all students who are interested in this and other student relevant topics to get to know who is representing your constituency and speak to those elected or appointed senate seat holders.

Shirvani has caused trouble everywhere he worked. Ruffling feathers is not such a bad thing. Being a yes man can be far worse. The problem is really with the Presidents of HE institutions. It is also with the complete lack of vetting of the potential chancellor. This guy, if he is being bought out in each and every job, has found a very lucrative method of accruing quite a stash with little work.

Good article. Don't like an opinion--suggest they shouldn't speak. At the core is an admissions policy designed to favor the wealthy. What is wrong with a B/C student wanting 1 or 2 or 3 years of college? This tracks a nationwide republican plan to privatize our public schools. For now he is an agitator and undesirable.
