Better put in some green zones or it will be worse than California.

I agree I would feel sick if Minot was all clean and colorful, keep it drab and crappy like it is.

i thought our city 'leaders' were more interested in keeping property tax as high as possible rather than worry how the property looks.

Yes we would like Minot to look like a gigantic drab "old folks home"! Nothing says welcome like! "Get out of my yard!"

Seems strange the city wants to limit the size, color, doors and windows but are ok with putting regular mobile homes in the residential areas. Something does not add up here.

We have a new school being built next to a chemical storage company? So anything the zoning commission comes up with doesn't really surprise me.

There has been a house on 19th St for many years with no entrance facing the street. Where was all the uproar about that residence? What is your definition of 'garish or bright shingles'? But by all means, let's make Minot look like a military base with all the same colors, windows, doors, siding, etc.

Another thing that should be zoned is that the pitch and style of the roof should match the pitch and style of the home. Ex. is the beautiful home up behind Homesteaders. The design of the home is beautiful, but the roof of the garage destroys the entire appearance.

disgusted will Minot have to hire a Zoning czar and a czar force?

They already have that through the building permit process. Now whether they will demand czars for those who shingle their own homes, I do not know. The planning commission will present their ideas to the city council next Monday eve. See you there.

Another example of the 'drone mentality'.
It is defined as the state of existence where everyone believes that even though the domestic economy is not that great, foreign diplomacy and military policy are doing fine. Nothing could be further from the truth.
It is bad, then it is worse, but it all is made to look good.
It is the money interests that want the zoning changes. It is done to expedite the building process to have the material base one complete package before any of it all begins.
Go to ebay real estate and look at how much houses are selling for in Tennessee. Starting bids are 500 dollars. No kidding.
When you're inside a bubble like North Dakota, reality doesn't matter.
The city council will do some grandstanding and then roll over and die. They have the drone mentality.
Minot is a new 'investors hub'. They want the zone changes. The citizens of Minot can lump it.
A reversion to the mean will happen.
Send in the drones.

Please be sure that you have first read and then understand the proposed ordinances before you make your comments - I would be helpful! AND one more thing - try to be part of the solution not the problem. Show up with your constructive comments. Or if you rather - move to Williston and experience first hand what it is like to live in a community with out a sense for the common good.

Nobody asked for this stuff, it got crammed down our throats before we knew it.
I have been responsible for many years, a life time now. Working to the best of my ability, always making sure that my bills are always paid in full, and on and on.
All it has done is increase the amount I owe each month, year after year, decade after decade. Always more to pay, all of the time. It never, ever stops. Always somebody always wants more money for what was once less.
It is so old and tiring, it makes me sick. Time to powerbarf without cessation.
I've been responsible. It is time for the gov to do the same.

I don't believe that we can compare Minot to Williston. The two situations are very different. Common Sense and restraint in actions are needed.

For those of you that have posted comments - Have you actually read the proposed ordinances - Do you understand what the proposed changes would be? Could you provide specific problems that you have with the proposed ordinances? Or do you choose to simply rant and rave about something that you know nothing about? If this is not the case - please post your specific issues.

Here is the problem O mighty one.If I do not want a window or door constructed in a certain area thats my choice. If I want to paint my house pink with green shingles Thats my choice. The city needs to be more concerned with drainage and topography in the area the house's are built rather than this junk.Got it almighty one.

The draft has a lot of 'may' to 'will'.
That is, what you are permitted to do compared to what you will be required to do.
Homeowners associations are less than desirable and is another tax.
No thanks.

No. All of the changes aren't going to do any good.
I have purchased property in another location.
Minot is not what it once was.

I was going to ask what YOu thought of last night. 162 pages of changes and the building association was not aware of them or any of the previous 'public' meetings says something about the council, and that something is not so good.

I don't know I see areas of condos or townhouses where all you see are rows and rows of garage doors facing the street. Does that look attractive?
