How about 8 FEMA trailers projecting from the rotunda, this would give it a "wagon wheel" appearance from the air...very unique wouldn't you say???

These wars we fight over the control of the planets energy supplies are way bigger than Obama or any Nations Government can ever hope to be. He who controls the energy controls the planet has been the motto for over 100 years. There are Corporations that are much wealthier than our government, Apple is one that comes to mind.

ND is the only state that does not allow corporate farms. The subsidies are to keep prices down for consumers and loan guarantees because our banks can't foreclose and take the land away. We vote on this occasionally. The Governors house really symbolizes how conservative ND had to be in tougher times, it's a great tribute to all the ND citizens who worked very hard taming the prairie with their bare hands.

Here's my preemptive response (Got that one from GW)....Of all the posts about Obama cavorting about while the National Debt looms overhead....Why doesn't the ND Legislature sponsor a bill to pay back the Federal govt. for years and years of financial support...Let's say 3 Million for starters...You know every little bit helps....Oops, I forgot....Republicans don't pay their bills....Right BG!

February 16, 2013 Minot Daily News

"That is not the North Dakota way."

You're right...This is ther ND way! 10) North Dakota > Amt. per capita net of income taxes: $10,438 > Population: 672,591 > Pct. of U.S. population: 0.22% > Amt. per capita: $12,930 > Pct. of U.S. funds per person: 0.27%

With the third-smallest population in the U.S., North Dakota’s federal spending per capita was understandably larger than more populous states. North Dakota ranked third in the country for receiving Direct payments other than retirement and disability. What is unusual is the large amount of money that North Dakota farmers received from the federal government — the state ranked second in agricultural assistance in the nation, behind only Texas, which has a population more than 37 times that of North Dakota.

"...as per the requirement from the federal government..."

I posted elsewhere that federal mandates equal fed money and fed strings. Tell me where a state can be entirely independent from the feds. Billgrr?

As I understood it, there is $2.9 million set aside as per the requirement from the federal government when ND or each state was granted statehood. Money would also come from private funds because there are those who want to donate to such structures.

Ohh...are you all right, bill?

Maintain, fix or upgrade until it's just as expensive to build. Then build something decent of similar style. When the boom settles down a little, perhaps construction materials will come down in price a little as well.

After looking at some photos of the house I can see why the Governor likes it. It's a well built brick house that will surely withstand any severe weather that may come about. It kind of looks like a school house or modern church to me which are both good things.

Three million dollars in not a lot of money these days, and in the future $3m will buy less than it does now. Build now. What was the phrase used? "that's not the North Dakota way?" What the heck is that supposed to mean? I suggest miserly penny pinching tightwads.

The Governors house is old and needs major renovation. Something will eventually need to be done, major renovation or new home. I don't believe we need a $3 million dollar house for our Governor but their family should live in a respectable home. Understanding the legislative process I cannot think of a better time to provide the funds. I cannot believe the legislature voted this down.

A few facts. Tax money is NOT used for the home for the governor. The money is already there. When they get the bid for the removal of mold in the attic, the lead and asbestos; they may find it is cheaper to build a new one. I don't care one way or the other, but MDN didn't include all the facts.
