School start, end dates could change for 2013

The Minot Public School District is looking at a Sept. 5 starting date for the 2013-2014 school year to allow teachers more time to move into a newly completed Erik Ramstad Middle School....

I agree with you EarlyBird. There is nothing magical about the 180 days requirement set back in 0 whatever. If they can't get up to speed in that time frame let the local districts solve their own problems.

In Past years, everyone was quick to complain that school started before Labor Day as it took away that last summer vacation for families. Now they will get Labor Day so how long will it take for someone to complain that now they will still be in school after Memorial Day?

I wonder if anybody considers the students in these decisions. I remember when spring came and it was impossible to concentrate after a long winter of being inside quite allot and I also remember being excited for school to start in the fall. So lets do the opposite of what probably works for the kids. It should start right after Labor day and get out right before Memorial day and that is that.
