Thank you for this letter, and for the work you and your colleagues do at Job Corps here in Minot. I am sorry to hear they are not taking new students for 6 months. The payoff is so much greater than the investment, like you said, not only for the students, but for the community.

I do hpe that the Director is contacting Heitkamp, Hoeven and Cramer about this so they can correct the situation. This is one area where the government is generally doing a good thing--at least that is true with our local Job Corps.

This is a great article! I wanted to share the national numbers we've been using to educate our members of Congress. Based on the 3% weekly termination rate, 29,652 students will be denied enrollment through June 30, 2013. Also, 9,884 staff will lose their jobs based staffing levels based 1:3 staff to student ratio. unfortunately, I don't have the national numbers for how this impacts communities.

I do have one question. Is the Job Corps campus here in Minot fiscally sound? Is it operating in the red or the black? There is a $60 million short-fall with the operations of the Job corp in general. It seems funny that the federal government would be concerned about the measly bit of money. I wonder if Job Corps was expected to run within the budget it was given by the Congress? Or if there is something more that is being investigated in the running and operations of Job Corps?

Another sound gov't policy? We pay to store tanks in the desert that we don't need, but cut gov't programs that actually help our young citizens get a helping hand to create a life for themselves, and get them out of the welfare programs!
