Shouldn't the police be required to surrender their assault weapons too? Gun owners won't have their guns anymore, so the police shouldn't need any guns then, right? All weapons must be surrendered, all.

Try to confiscate the guns that are out there and it will be civil war.

Confiscate all of the guns from the citizens and you will have war.

It happens every time. History proves it beyond all doubt. People have a deep distrust for governments that tread on them.

Like Thomas Jefferson said: The tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

All it takes is a spark and in less than 24 hours it will be totally out of control.

The US gov will be the big loser. People have had it with them.

Japanese General Yamamoto knew it long ago. "you can't invade America, there is a gun behind every blade of grass."

A fact he was not going to ignore.

If I were the US gov, I'd read and heed the General's words until they sink in completely.

Tryng to abolish government politically, by violent revolution or peaceful legal euthanasia, would mean doing away with the personal security that the rule of law provides at one stroke, with no guarantees of when, or even if, a new rule of law will emerge. The best that political action can be expected to achieve is one under which anarchy may emerge by market action.

The US Government doesn’t allow you to own machine guns, Stinger missiles, or armed Abrams M1 tanks. They won’t allow you to own Star Trek Phasers when they invent them either. You will lose when they eventually ban AR 15 semi automatic assault weapons.

Go for it. Go ahead and resist, I will enjoy watching the government taking your weapons of mass destruction. In the words of Charlton Heston, "I'll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands," If that how you want it, fine with me.

ProgLib, are you hoping that by perhaps aligning yourself with the gov't (to defend you) that you will be on the right side of things?

Sorry, I don't trust elected officials THAT much.

And your sentiments of "fine with me" run a chill up my spine. I wouldn't say that about you, if you were the one wanting to keep your gun and me disagreeing with you.

Don't worry Locomotive, I've got guns, plenty of them, and they are much better for self defense than any AR15. They just aren't Assault weapons, and make a much better self defense weapon.

Whatever will you do with your angst against the Republican party if they happen to fade away like the Whig party of old?

Oh wait. I guess you weren't talking about the "party." You were painting with the broad brush again, accusing "people" who disagree with you (i.e., "Republicans") of being "Self-centered, Selfish, Greedy, Paranoid" and wearing tin-foil hats, aka "Stoopid."

So that "reaching across the aisle" thing? Or that "compassionate, tolerant liberal" thing?

Locomotive, you don't want semi-automatic, 50 round clip assault weapons to start another conservative civil war? I'm pretty sure the last one pretty much established the central governments power over the states. In case you were not paying attention in history class, the progressive North crushed the regressive South after the South started it.

If you are talking about personal protection, a 308 with a good scope, 12 gauge pump shotgun with 90 .150” #2 shot, and 22 semi auto hand gun is plenty to fend off a small army of nuts, far or near.

All useful for hunting and not a danger to mass people.
