I remember the war years as a kid and because of the shortage of construction materials, the second hotel off Main sat waiting; girders exposed,unfinished temporarily, and actuated another label... The Sparrow Hotel for the birds that nested in the exposed girders?
Lo, the buffalo:My father was a meat man extraordinaire and treated meat cutting as a surgeon of sorts...butchered the buffalo on the Parker ranch which was one of the first in Dakota to recognize the buffalo and contain them - good or bad depending on one's point of view I suppose. Plus... The Plaza never smacked two slices of bread together for a hot beef or turkey sandwich but carefully,like a Scandinavian open face, with a delicate gravy; a special treat after church; a blessing in the aftermath, the cafe dinner not church... Fine cuisine and wonderful restaurant, yes indeed.
Did my mother, a young court reporter meet Father for a first date at La Plaza...or was it the Ideal Cafe? Memories...enough already

I also share that thought lorexxx and the Parker Hotels had class and I still like the downtown business area post mall era.
