More people are turning to surgery to lose weight

Many individuals struggle with their weight. For some, when they have tried every diet and are too large to exercise comfortably, weight loss surgery can help them when nothing else seems to be an option. Weight loss surgeries such as gastric bypass and lap-band surgery have become more popular in recent years.
“About six or eight years ago, there were only 30,000 or 40,000 weight loss surgeries done in the country. Last year, there were over 200,000 done. In six years, it’s skyrocketed, because the techniques are better, the surgery is safer than it used to be, and it’s obviously being marketed very well so patients are aware that there’s a surgical procedure to help them when other programs have failed,” Dr.
