Student teacher ‘learning as she goes’
BELCOURT – It took Jessica Azure some time to get into the teaching profession.
“I kind of moseyed around for quite awhile,” said Azure, who is doing her student teaching at Turtle Mountain Elementary School in Belcourt.
But Azure always knew she liked kids and that she wanted to help people. She worked as a child care provider and then in fire protection. She’s also the mom of three kids, the oldest age 8. She decided education would be the way she could both help people and to work with children.
“I want to help students in any way possible,” she said.
Azure said she’s “learning as I go” in the classroom. She hopes to teach students in the lower elementary grades, but decided to “challenge myself” by student teaching in a fifth-grade classroom. She’s found some of the behaviors of the fifth-graders a little more challenging.
