The Minot Public Library offers a wonderful area just inside the main entrance that is used for displays of all kinds. They often try to have thematic presentations, so naturally for the month of July the theme is a patriotic Fourth. Wendy Pearson has a collection of her Americana decor in the display cases along with several United States flags. “I have a 48-star original flag that’s 4-by-6 feet that I picked up in a Colorado antique store,” she said. “I’ve been seriously collecting since 1993. There’s a numbered print of George Washington kneeling at Valley Forge, and I have ‘Spirit of ‘76’ plates and cups.” One of the prized possessions is an original piece of sheet music from her grandmother. “It’s a piece of patriotic music from 1943,” she said. “My grandfather was in (WWII), and they got married in early ’43 when he came home.” Pearson is a Minot native, but said she has added to her collection on trips to Philadelphia and Washington, D..
