Donations are being accepted today and Thursday for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Rummage Sale Sept. 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the VFW Club, 1100-31st St. SE. Donations other than clothing will be accepted and may be dropped off at the club before Friday.

Ice hockey and roller skating: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Maysa Arena.

Soup kitchen: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Immanuel Baptist Church, 1615-2nd St. SE.

Minot State University's Brown Bag Book Talks begin today. Eric Furuseth from the MSU Humanities Department, will discuss Ian Frazier's book, "Great Plains" at the first session. The programs all start at noon and end by 12:45 p.m., and people are encouraged to bring their lunch. The talks are held in the Gordon B. Olson Library's lower level at MSU. People do not need to read the book ahead of time. Other Brown Bag Book Talks are scheduled for Oct. 7; Nov. 17; and Dec. 3.

Spiritual Life Church has its clothes closet open every Wednesday: Between noon and 4 p.m., 400 N. Main St., two blocks east of Sammy's Pizza. Clothing is free to those who need. The church also accepts clothing donations during those hours.

Ice skating and in-line hockey: 12:30 to 2 p.m., Maysa Arena.

United Blood Services of Minot and Maddock Community Blood Drive: 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Maddock Community Center. Call Cede at 438-2290 or Tammy at 438- 2457 for an appointment.

Faith United Methodist Church's food and clothing pantry is open Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is located at 801 W. University Ave.

2nd Story Social Club's Nutrition Class: 3:30 p.m., 13-1st Ave. SW.

Soup kitchen: 5 to 6:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 1000-3rd St. NE.

Trumpet concert by Joel Finnesgard: 7 p.m., Bethel Free Lutheran Church, 530-22nd Ave. NW. The concert will include traditional hymns and contemporary praise and worship music. He and his wife, June, have a full-time ministry, Sound of the Trumpet. He graduated from Divide County High School in Crosby in 1983 and has recorded six albums. Concert by Shinedown, Sickpuppies, Cavo and Adelitas Way: 7 p.m., North Dakota State Fair Center's All Seasons Arena, State Fairgrounds, Minot. All tickets will be general admission. Northwest Art Center's 2009-10 Lecture Series begins: 7 p.m., Minot State University's Aleshire Theater, Hartnett Hall. The first lecture will be about the MSU Spanish Study Tour. Presenters will include Andrea Donovan, assistant professor of art history and humanities at MSU, and MSU students Kayla Cote, Kyra Hansen, Derek Diede and Alyssa Harasym. They went to Spain and Morocco and will share their experiences and photos. Their talk, "Spanish Fiesta," will focus on the art and culture of the two countries. A question and answer period and informal reception will follow. The program is free and open to the public. The lecture series is funded in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
