Outdoors Calendar

A birding field trip sponsored by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department is scheduled for May 24 in Burleigh County, according to Nathaniel Umphrey, department outreach biologist.

The outing is open to 25 people who call and register. Preference is given to those who have never been on the trip before. Participants will be going to McKenzie Slough, Long Lake and the Kimball Bottoms area.

"It doesn't matter if you are a first-time birder, or a veteran of watching our feathered friends," Umphrey said.

Participants are asked to bring binoculars, a bird book and a snack, and need to meet at the department at 7 a.m., and can expect to return around noon. The trip is free and transportation will be provided.
