BELL RINGERS NEEDED: The annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign needs volunteer bell ringers. The campaign is under way and will continue through Dec. 24. Volunteers may contact The Salvation Army at 838-8925 to reserve a location. Groups or individuals may choose to ring at a minimum of two-hour shifts from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday at several locations in Minot.

TYLER ANDERSON BENEFIT: A fundraising fish and chicken supper will be Dec. 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Minot Moose Lodge, 400-9th St. SW, to benefit Tyler Anderson and his family. He is the infant son of Keith and Kendall Anderson of the Minot area. Keith is an armed guard at Minot Air Force Base and Kendall is a realtor at Century 21 in Minot. Century 21 is sponsoring the fundraiser. Tyler was born six weeks early and has only one functioning kidney and has to make monthly medical trips to Minneapolis. All proceeds will benefit the family and assist with medical and travel expenses. Donations may also be made to the Tyler Anderson Fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Minot.

ORIGAMI ORNAMENTS CLASS: Adults and teenagers will learn how to make origami ornaments at a class Dec. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Carnegie Center downtown, 105-2nd Ave SE. The class is part of the Minot Area Council of the Arts monthly Art Night Out series. Local artist Rachel Machesky will teach the class which is for beginners or advanced artists. No prior experience is necessary. Each person will make about three ornaments during the session. The class fee is $20 and includes materials, instruction and refreshments. AREA BLOOD DRIVES: United Blood Services of Minot has numerous blood drives in December. Appointments to donate blood should be made ahead of time. SONS OF NORWAY DINNER: The Sons of Norway Thor Lodge No. 67 will celebrate Julefest Dec. 15 at the Holiday Inn-Riverside in Minot and reservations and payment are needed by Dec. 10. Dinner will be served and entertainment will include the Baptist Boys from Tioga. All members and guests are invited. CHRISTMAS PLAY: The Minot State University Campus Players production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," adapted by Kevin Neuharth, associate professor of communication arts at MSU, will be Dec. 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in MSU's Hartnett Hall, Aleshire Theater. Chris Stroschein, MSU student, will be the director. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students, children and senior citizens. MSU identification cards will not be accepted for admission because this production is a fundraiser for Campus Players. Reservations are strongly recommended and should be made by calling 858-3172.

YOUNG DRIVERS COURSE: The N.D. Safety Council Inc., Bismarck, will offer the "Alive at 25" Defensive Driving Course Dec. 11 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Minot State University's Model Hall, Room 207. The course is for drivers ages 14-25 and has been approved for point reduction and insurance discounts in North Dakota. Call the safety council at 1-800-932-8890 to preregister, which is required.

KENMARE CHRISTMAS WRAPPING: The Baptist Home of Kenmare will sponsor "Wrap Up Your Holidays with the Baptist Home of Kenmare," a special Christmas gift wrap service, Dec. 11 from 2 to 8 p.m. People may bring their Christmas presents to the nursing home's third floor activity room during that time to have their presents wrapped. People may have refreshments while they wait or they may drop presents off and stop back later. The nursing home staff and community volunteers will offer a variety of gift wrapping choices, gift bags and boxes. A freewill donation will go toward a new nativity scene for the Baptist Home residents. Those who would like to help wrap presents are also welcome.

DICKENS FESTIVAL: The Dickens Village Festival will be Dec. 12-13 in Garrison. For tickets or information, call 1-800-799-4242 or go online to (www.dickensfestival.com).

CPR CLASS: The Minot Family YMCA offers a CPR-PR course the second Saturday of each month. The cost for the class is $75. People must preregister for the class. Call the Y at 852-0141 for preregistration information.

SHRINERS HOSPITAL PATIENTS PARTY: The Shriners Hospital Patients Party will be Dec. 13 in Minot. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the Masonic building, 2524 E. Burdick Expressway. This is the Christmas party for all present and past patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children and for their families. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and beverages will be served. Clowns will perform and Santa will visit and bring gifts for the children. The Minot Shrine Club is hosting the events.

CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES: The Catholic Daughters of the Americas are sponsoring a Christmas walk tour of homes Dec. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. Homes on the tour include the home of Neil and Verla Zimmerman, 7601 U.S. Highway 52 E., five miles east of Minot; Curt and Vonda Clark, 1317- 17 1/2 Ave. SW; and Kevin and Merri Jo Connole, 317-5th St. NW. The tour may begin at any of the homes, where addresses and directions to the other homes will be provided. A freewill offering will be accepted. The tour will conclude at St. Leo's Community Center, 105-1st St. SE, where there will be entertainment, coffee and snacks. Christmas cookies and candy will be available for purchase.

ART ALA CARTE: The Taube Museum of Art, 2 N. Main St., is sponsoring "Art Ala Carte Saturdays", an all-you-can-eat lunch including dessert and beverage, and children's art activities Dec. 13, Jan. 10, Feb. 7, March 14, April 11 and May 2. The lunches are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Following is the schedule: Dec. 13, macaroni and cheese; Jan. 10, pancakes and sausage, Feb. 7, soup; March 14, pizza; April 11, hamburgers and fries; and May 2, tacos. The lunches are designed for children of all ages. Pay at the door prices are $7 for Taube members and $10 for nonmembers; $24 for a member family of up to four people and $30 for a family of up to four people; and $5 for children ages 10 and under. DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE: The N.D. Safety Council Inc., Bismarck, will offer the Defensive Driving Course Dec. 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Minot State University's Model Hall, Room 207. The cost is $45 per person, $40 if you are a member of the N.D. Safety Council, or $30 for senior citizens ages 55 and older. Additional family members may take the course for $20. RAILROAD REPRESENTATIVE: A representative from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board will be in Minot Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Federal Building, Room B-7, 100-1st St. SW. The board is a federal agency which administers the Railroad Retirement and Railroad Unemployment Insurance Acts. People should call the district office in Fargo at 239-5117 for an appointment. Those without appointments will be assisted as time permits.

WISH LIST: The 2nd Story Social Club has a wish list of items needed. Those who would like to donate may bring monetary donations, Christmas gifts for members which will be given out Dec. 19 at the club's annual Christmas Party at the Minot Municipal Armory, and cookies and bars, apple cider, vegetable, fruit and meat trays, also for the Christmas party, plastic silverware, paper plates, paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, Styrofoam cups, napkins, hand soap, bingo prizes, air freshener, 13 gallon garbage bags, healthy snacks, cookies, bars, coffee and pop. The club is located at 13-1st Ave. SW. The best time to drop off donations is weekdays after 5 p.m. or on the weekends. 2nd Story is a social club for adults with developmental disabilities. The club is now accessible for those with handicaps.

PUPPET SHOW: A Christmas Puppet Show for children ages 3-6 will be Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the Minot Public Library Imagination Station. Parents may relax and browse the library while their child attends the puppet show. Call 838-0606 for more information.

MSU ALUMNI POKER FUNDRAISER: The North Dakota Texas Hold'em Poker Championship Tournament, sponsored by the Minot State University Alumni Association, will be Dec. 31 through Jan. 3 at the Vegas Motel, Minot. The charity poker tournament raises money for MSU's scholarship fund and is expected to draw about 1,300 players from across the country and Canada. Call 839-3000 for more information.

RAILROAD MUSEUM ANNUAL MEETING: The Railroad Museum of Minot will hold its annual meeting Jan. 24 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Parker Center in downtown Minot, 21-1st Ave. SE. All members are asked to RSVP by Jan. 15. Board members will be elected and policy proposals important to the future of the museum and the Magic City Express will be discussed. WILLISTON THEATER: Entertainment, Inc! in Williston will present "Is He Dead?" Feb. 12-15. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. except Sundays, when performances are at 2:30 p.m. Doors open a half hour before show time. Other plays this season will be "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" March 19-23 and "The Pajama Game" May 8-10 and May 14-17. All performances will take place at the Old Armory Theatre in Williston. MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS WALK: The Walk MS Minot will be May 9 at Minot State University Dome. Registration starts at 9 a.m, and the three-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. People may form a team or walk as an individual. MINOT HISTORY WANTED: Mouse River Players Community Theatre is planning for a historical drama presentation in March. LIBRARY HOME DELIVERY: The Minot Public Library offers home delivery through the library's Special Services Program. The program is for people who are homebound, who have a visual or physical disability or who live in a nursing home or assisted living center. The collection includes books in regular or large print format and audiobooks on cassette and compact disks and music CDs or cassettes. Call Kathy or Jeanne at 852-1045 for more information.

ART NEEDED: Individuals or organizations with information, art or collections to share are encouraged to contact the Minot Public Library about lobby display.

DRIVERS NEEDED: The North Dakota Association for the Disabled in Minot needs drivers to transport individuals to out-of-town medical appointments. Drivers would use their own vehicles and would get mileage reimbursement. A van accessible for transporting people with handicaps is also available for some appointments. YWCA CLASSES: The Minot YWCA is accepting applications for Pilates Class and Yoga Class. Pilates classes are available Monday through Thursday at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. and people may come to as many pilates classes as they want per month. Yoga classes are available Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Pilates Class is $20 per month plus an annual YWCA membership of $25. Yoga classes are $15 per month plus the annual $25 fee. People may start these classes anytime. All classes are held at 1020 N. Broadway. Call 838-1812 for more information.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Rehab Services Inc. in Minot is seeking volunteers for its newest program called Recoveree Connection. Volunteers provide telephone support for North Dakotans in drug and alcohol recovery. Volunteers should have experience in the recovery process. RAILROAD SAFETY VOLUNTEERS: North Dakota Operation Lifesaver is seeking passionate volunteers to help spread their message about railroad safety. ND Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public information and safety education program dedicated to eliminating collisions, deaths, and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights-of-way. INFORMATION SERVICES: The Information and Referral office is an information service provided by the Minot Public Library. The mission of the office is to gather information of vital concern and to provide the information to those who need it. The primary function is to link people in need of information with the appropriate organization or agency that can meet their needs. CLUBS DIRECTORY: The 28th edition of the Clubs and Organizations Directory is available for the public for $3 per directory. The directory lists clubs and organizations including human service agencies in the Minot area, contact persons, with addresses and phone numbers. People may purchase the directory at the Minot Public Library's Information and Referral Center Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The directory is published annually. Club presidents and members are asked to submit updated information for the 29th edition of the directory, which will be published later. Additional information is also available from that office including meeting room availability in the Minot area, day-care center listings, library and community happenings and consumer information.

EASTER SEALS SERVICES: Easter Seals Goodwill ND Inc,. offers in-home support services for people with disabilities and for senior citizens; offers personal care, homemaker and other services; rents equipment including walkers, wheel chairs and other medical equipment; and operates the Goodwill Retail Store in Minot. CHILD-CARE HELP: Are you looking for child care for your infant, preschool or school-age child? Child Care Resource and Referral can assist you in evaluating your child-care needs and give you a customized list of available child-care providers in your area. LITERACY FUNDRAISER: The Minot Adult Literacy Volunteers organization is collecting used books, cell phones and inkjet cartridges as part of an ongoing fundraising effort. People may drop these items off at a collection center inside the Minot Adult Learning Center at 1609-4th Ave. NW.

POWERS LAKE CENTENNIAL: The Powers Lake Centennial Registration Committee is gathering addresses of graduates for the Powers Lake Centennial, which will be July 3-5, 2009. The committee doesn't have lists of people who didn't graduate from Powers Lake but would like to receive mailings about the celebration. MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERS: The Minot Commission on Aging needs volunteers to assist with preparing for Meals on Wheels delivery from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, and also needs volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels starting at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
