MEDICARE PART D INFORMATION: Informational programs about the upcoming Medicare Part D open enrollment period now through Dec. 31 will be held around the state. Area meetings will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 24 at Williston Senior Center, Nov. 25 at Sleep Inn ­ Inn and Suites in Minot and Dec. 17 at Lake Region College's Heritage Room, Devils Lake. Meetings are for Medicare beneficiaries to get assistance comparing and possibly changing to a Medicare Part D plan best suited for them. The meetings are sponsored by the Medicare Rx Access Network of North Dakota, area agencies on aging, and the State Health Insurance Counseling Program. BRENTMOOR BAZAAR: The Seventh Annual Brentmoor Assisted Living Bazaar will be Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Brentmoor Community Room, 3515-10th St. SW. There will be crafts, baked goods, caramel rolls, popcorn cakes, salsa, specialty bread and more.

GUEST PIANO RECITAL: Visiting performer Thais Nicolau of Boulder, Colo., will give a piano recital Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. in Minot State University's Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. She is originally from Brazil and has performed at music festivals in several countries. The recital is free and open to the public.

SALVATION ARMY THANKSGIVING: The Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner will be Nov. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parker Senior Center, 21-1st Ave. SE. Jerry Schlag will provide music. The dinner is open to the public but people need to make reservations by calling the Salvation Army Corps at 838-8925.

BOTTINEAU THANKSGIVING: People planning to attend the United Parish Church of Bottineau's Thanksgiving Day Meal Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. should call 228-2178 for reservations and transportation if needed. The meal was planned for those who will be alone at Thanksgiving.

BROADWAY SAMPLER: Mouse River Players Community Theatre will present a musical revue, "A Broadway Sampler," Nov. 28-29 in The Arlene Saugstad Theater downtown, 115-1st St. SE. Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the performance at 7:30 p.m. There will be food, door prizes and Broadway show tunes performed by local youth and adults. Tickets are $15 per person. DOWNTOWN OPEN HOUSE: Downtown Minot's Annual Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be Nov. 28 from 3 to 8 p.m., sponsored by the Downtown Business and Professional Association. The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. The tree has more than 20,000 twinkling lights coordinated to a series of 10 holiday songs. Pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Abracadabra Balloons. Dinner with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church. A candlelight procession with caroling down Main Street will be from 5:45 to 6 p.m. There will also be holiday treats and beverages at various downtown businesses and hayrides. Downtown merchants are asking for donations of hats, scarves, mittens, socks and nonperishable food items. People should bring these items to the lighting ceremony and the items will be collected there and given to the Horn of Plenty project to be distributed to low-income people. DAKOTAH BED AND BREAKFAST TEA: Reservations are needed by Nov. 28 for those who want to attend the Dakotah Rose Bed and Breakfast's annual Christmas Tea and Tour Nov. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at at 510-4th Ave. NW. WILLISTON THEATER: Entertainment, Inc! in Williston has set its 2008-09 season. Plays to be performed include "Don't Hug Me" Nov. 28-30 and Dec. 4-7; "Is He Dead?" RENAISSANCE FEAST: The Minot Chamber Chorale will present the 36th annual "Renaissance Christmas Feast" Dec. 4-6 in the Minot Holiday Inn-Riverside Coliseum. A social begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Advance reservations and tickets are required. Tickets are $27 for members, $32 for nonmembers and $17 for children. EASTWOOD PARK FESTIVAL: Eastwood Park's Annual Festival of Lights and Charity Drive will be Dec. 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. People may tour the historic Eastwood Park and view the Christmas light displays and vote for their favorite, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, participate in a sleigh or hay ride, weather permitting, a silent auction, musical entertainment and refreshments. The entrance fee is a canned food item to be given to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Minot or toys for KHRT's Horn of Plenty drive or $2 per car load.

BEGINNING EXPERIENCE: Sessions of the international Beginning Experience Peer Ministry Support Group for separated, divorced and widowed people will start Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. Level one sessions will be Thursdays in Christ Lutheran Church, 502-17th St. SW. CHRISTMAS BIBLE SCHOOL: St. Leo's Catholic Church will offer a program for children, "Christmas ­ A Christian Tradition," Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Leo's Community Center, 105-1st St. SE. The program is for children ages 3 through sixth grade and is open to children of all faiths. Lunch will be provided. A freewill offering for the Christmas Bible School will be accepted. ANIMAL SHELTER PROGRAM: The Souris Valley Animal Shelter is offering a unique way to remember loved ones and pets this holiday season. With a $5 donation, shelter staff will place a bell or star on garland decorating the shelter lobby. A lighting ceremony for the garland will be Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. The names represented by each bell and star will be read during the ceremony. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony. MOHALL COOKIE WALK: The Mohall United Methodist Church will hold its Seventh Annual Christmas Cookie Walk Dec. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the church, 204-1st Ave. NW. A variety of cookies will be for sale by the pound. Containers will be provided or people may bring their own containers.

CHRISTMAS CONCERTS: The 38th Annual Celebration of Christmas Music by the Northwest Chorus and Orchestra Association Inc. of Crosby and Southeast Chorus Association Inc. of Estevan, Sask., an international chorus, will be Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Estevan, and Dec. 7 at Crosby Concordia Lutheran Church at 4 p.m., followed by a no-host supper at Mr. K's in Crosby."Go Tell It on the Mountain" is this year's theme. About 50 singers from both sides of the border are participating. Tickets are $15 for a family, $5 for adults, and $3 for students in grades one through eight. Preschoolers will be admitted for free.

TYLER ANDERSON BENEFIT: A fundraising fish and chicken supper will be Dec. 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Minot Moose Lodge, 400-9th St. SW, to benefit Tyler Anderson and his family. He is the infant son of Keith and Kendall Anderson of the Minot area. Keith is an armed guard at Minot Air Force Base and Kendall is a realtor at Century 21 in Minot. Century 21 is sponsoring the fundraiser. Tyler was born six weeks early and has only one functioning kidney and has to make monthly medical trips to Minneapolis. All proceeds will benefit the family and assist with medical and travel expenses. Donations may also be made to the Tyler Anderson Fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Minot.

ART ALA CARTE: The Taube Museum of Art, 2 N. Main St., is sponsoring "Art Ala Carte Saturdays", an all-you-can-eat lunch including dessert and beverage, and children's art activities Dec. 13, Jan. 10, a date to be announced later in February, March 14, April 11 and May 2. The lunches are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Following is the schedule: Dec. 13, macaroni and cheese; Jan. 10, pancakes and sausage, February, soup; March 14, pizza; April 11, hamburgers and fries; and May 2, tacos. The lunches are designed for children of all ages. Pay at the door prices are $7 for Taube members and $10 for nonmembers; $24 for a member family of up to four people and $30 for a family of up to four people; and $5 for children ages 10 and under. RAILROAD REPRESENTATIVE: A representative from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board will be in Minot Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Federal Building, Room B-7, 100-1st St. SW. MSU ALUMNI POKER FUNDRAISER: The North Dakota Texas Hold'em Poker Championship Tournament, sponsored by the Minot State University Alumni Association, will be Dec. 31 through Jan. 3 at the Vegas Motel, Minot. The charity poker tournament raises money for MSU's scholarship fund and is expected to draw about 1,300 players from across the country and Canada. Call 839-3000 for more information.

WISH LIST: The 2nd Story Social Club has a wish list of items needed. Those who would like to donate may bring monetary donations, sliding window bingo cards, Christmas gifts for members which will be given out Dec. 19 at the club's Christmas Party at the Municipal Armory, plastic silverware, paper plates, paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, Styrofoam cups, napkins, hand soap, bingo prizes, air freshener, 13 gallon garbage bags, healthy snacks, cookies, bars, coffee and pop. The club is located at 13-1st Ave. SW. The best time to drop off donations is weekdays after 5 p.m. or on the weekends. 2nd Story is a social club for adults with developmental disabilities. The club is now accessible for those with handicaps.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS WALK: The Walk MS Minot will be May 9 at Minot State University Dome. Registration starts at 9 a.m, and the three-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. People may form a team or walk as an individual. LIBRARY HOME DELIVERY: The Minot Public Library offers home delivery through the library's Special Services Program. The program is for people who are homebound, who have a visual or physical disability or who live in a nursing home or assisted living center. The collection includes books in regular or large print format and audiobooks on cassette and compact disks and music CDs or cassettes. Call Kathy or Jeanne at 852-1045 for more information.

DRIVERS NEEDED: The North Dakota Association for the Disabled in Minot needs drivers to transport individuals to out-of-town medical appointments. Drivers would use their own vehicles and would get mileage reimbursement. A van accessible for transporting people with handicaps is also available for some appointments. YWCA CLASSES: The Minot YWCA is accepting applications for Pilates Class and Yoga Class. Pilates classes are available Monday through Thursday at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. and people may come to as many pilates classes as they want per month. Yoga classes are available Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Pilates Class is $20 per month plus an annual YWCA membership of $25. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Rehab Services Inc. in Minot is seeking volunteers for its newest program called Recoveree Connection. Volunteers provide telephone support for North Dakotans in drug and alcohol recovery. Volunteers should have experience in the recovery process. RAILROAD SAFETY VOLUNTEERS: North Dakota Operation Lifesaver is seeking passionate volunteers to help spread their message about railroad safety. ND Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public information and safety education program dedicated to eliminating collisions, deaths, and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights-of-way. The mission of the office is to gather information of vital concern and to provide the information to those who need it. The primary function is to link people in need of information with the appropriate organization or agency that can meet their needs. CLUBS DIRECTORY: The 28th edition of the Clubs and Organizations Directory is available for the public for $3 per directory. The directory lists clubs and organizations including human service agencies in the Minot area, contact persons, with addresses and phone numbers. People may purchase the directory at the Minot Public Library's Information and Referral Center Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The directory is published annually. Club presidents and members are asked to submit updated information for the 29th edition of the directory, which will be published later. LITERACY FUNDRAISER: The Minot Adult Literacy Volunteers organization is collecting used books, cell phones and inkjet cartridges as part of an ongoing fundraising effort. People may drop these items off at a collection center inside the Minot Adult Learning Center at 1609-4th Ave. NW.

POWERS LAKE CENTENNIAL: The Powers Lake Centennial Registration Committee is gathering addresses of graduates for the Powers Lake Centennial, which will be July 3-5, 2009. The committee doesn't have lists of people who didn't graduate from Powers Lake but would like to receive mailings about the celebration.
