Norsk Hostfest 2009: Continues Saturday at the North Dakota State Fair Center, State Fairgrounds, Minot. Country singer George Jones will perform at 1 p.m. Musical comedian Ray Stevens will perform at 7:30 p.m. Go online at (www.hostfest.com) to order tickets or call 852-2368.

Free weekly Saturday soup kitchen (breakfast): 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Congregational United Church of Christ basement, east door.

Lakeview Art Club Arts and Crafts Show: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kenmare Memorial Hall.

The 49th Annual Makoti Threshing Show: Saturday and Sunday in Makoti. The exhibition will have more than 300 operating units. There will be a large parade both days at 1 p.m., followed by threshing and plowing on the threshing grounds south of Makoti. Saturday's activities will include a vintage style show, an adult and kiddie tractor pull, tractor barrel roll and an evening musical jam session featuring area musicians including Floyd Kolobakken and Gary Andes. There will be a chain saw carving demonstration both days, a Giant Pumpkin Contest and silent auction of pumpkins. The purchase of a $10 button covers admission for both days. There is no charge for high school students and younger children.

Christian Motorcyclists Association: 11 a.m., Marcos Restaurant, Town and Country Center. The group meets the first Saturday of each month at that time and place.

Mouse River Loop Genealogical Society: 1 p.m., Minot Public Library. The group meets the first Saturday of the month. New members and visitors are welcome.  

Minot American Legion Post 26 social nights: Starting at 4 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, 1949 N. Broadway. 

Minot High School Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet: Social at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., MHS-Magic City Campus Commons Area. Seven former athletes, one coach, Steve Carver, and two contributors, Herb Johnson and Dick Sharp, will be inducted into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Minot State University's 24-hour play festival performance: 7:30 p.m., MSU's Aleshire Theater, Hartnett Hall. Admission is $3 at the door. All proceeds will go to MSU Campus Players. Call 858-3172 for more information.

 Bottineau County Concert Association concert/stage show by The Barbery Coast Dixieland Band: 7:30 p.m., Bottineau High School's Holwell Auditorium. Admission is by season membership only. Other concerts will be by Robert Robinson, a spiritual/gospel tenor, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m; by the Chatterton Duo featuring flute and piano March 14 at 2:30 p.m.; and a concert and comedy act by Home Free, an a cappella quartet, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. Prices range from $35 for adults, $10 for students, $70 for families and $75 for patron support. OTHER EVENTS

University of Mary's October Arts Festival: Starting at 1 p.m. on the campus in Bismarck. The event is held in conjunction with the university's 50th anniversary celebration and will include music, visual arts, architecture, creative movement and theater, and the dedication of the new campus sculpture "The Holy Family" by Greg Mueller. There will also be children's theater, crafts and face-painting. A faculty concert and a free dinner will follow the sculpture dedication, and the festival will close with a free concert by a praise and worship band led by Peder Eide. The University of Mary will present an encore performance of "Centennial Voices," a one-hour readers theater performance: 2:30 p.m., Clairmont Center for Performing Arts, Heskett Hall, on the Bismarck campus. This compilation of vignettes is designed to present a taste of life on the prairies of North Dakota.
