Evil Taliban shoot 14-year-old girl for advocating women's education
October 10, 2012 - Andrea Johnson
Here's more proof of the great evil of the Taliban and of their oppression of women.
Yesterday a Taliban member shot a 14-year-old Pakistani girl named Malala Yousufzai in the head and in the shoulder on a school bus because the teenager had dared to speak out in favor of education for women and against Muslim extremists. Her assailants boarded the bus, asked for her by name, and opened fire on her and on two classmates who escaped.
These inhuman creatures are proud of it, too. The Taliban immediately claimed responsibility for the attempted murder and said she was shot because she advocated for pro-Western views and the education of women.
Her dad ran a girls' school and Malala has been an outspoken advocate since she was 11, when she wrote a blog for the BBC under an assumed name about what it was like to live under the rule of the Pakistani Taliban, according to a story on the Reuters wire. She continued to advocate for education for girls like herself and received Pakistan's highest civilian prize. Malala and her family live in Pakistan's Swat valley, a troubled place that has been infested with militants. Her family has received numerous death threats and Malala had been placed on a hit list.
There is outrage in Pakistan over this story. Maybe the Taliban have finally gone too far in targeting a little girl.
The way Malala has lived her life should stand as an example. By refusing to be silenced, she has demonstrated how much power the words of one brave girl can have. She has done more in 14 years than many adults have accomplished.
Today she is comatose and in critical condition in a military hospital in Pakistan and her family is praying that she will open her eyes. I pray for her too and that her would be murderers will be brought to justice.
