Clint Eastwood jazzes up the Republican Convention

August 31, 2012 - Andrea Johnson
So did Clint Eastwood's speech at the Republican Convention last night make your day?

Eastwood, pitching Mitt Romney, addressed an empty chair representing President Obama and said, "When someone isn't doing the job, we've got to let him go."

Obama or his people responded on Twitter with a picture of Obama seated in a chair labeled "The President" and Tweeted "This seat's taken."

A lot else was probably said at the Republican convention, but I bet those sound bites will be the ones that stay in the memory, which is kind of sad. I didn't watch much of it, though I caught Marco Rubio's speech and most of Romney's along with Eastwood's. They seemed like the important ones.

Eastwood's speech was at least livelier than the rest. I always rather liked Eastwood as an actor, though my favorite of his movies was an obscure (and violent) cop movie called "Tightrope" in which he plays a kind of twisted New Orleans cop. I didn't watch many of the Dirty Movies in which he said "Make my day." I also liked his western "Unforgiven." I didn't know or care overly about his political leanings but I suddenly have an urge to find "Tightrope" so I can rewatch it.

I wonder if the Democrats will produce a celebrity who can liven up their convention in a similar fashion.
