Condi Rice as Romney's running mate?
July 13, 2012 - Andrea Johnson
Condoleezza Rice as a possible running mate for Mitt Romney?
I don't know a tremendous amount about Condi Rice but what I do know I like. She's extremely bright, a former secretary of state and has deep experience in diplomacy. She's currently a political science professor at Stanford. The feminist in me likes the idea of a woman in the vice president seat and I'm sure Romney's people like the fact that she's an African American. It will help balance their ticket when running against the first black president, Barack Obama.
I've seen her mainly in TV interviews, on the Sunday morning news shows. She's personable and comes across to me as likable but I don't know that I would have described her as charismatic in the way that, say, a Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan was. Romney seems to have a bit of a personality problem and has been criticized for coming across as too stiff and too out of touch with the common man or "too white." With a candidate like that, charisma in a running mate might be even more important. On the other hand, I don't think Obama is exactly Mr. Excitement either so it might be a fairly sedate presidential campaign. The vice presidential debates, if they have them, might be more fun to watch since Joe Biden is usually good for a one-liner or a gaffe, depending on who you ask.
It will be interesting to see if Romney actually does choose Rice as his running mate at the upcoming Republican convention. Who would you pick?
