How many of these "treasured books" have you read?

There's a list of 100 books floating around the blogosphere that started back when a group of people were asked to come up with a list of their "10 most precious books" for World Book Day. The list of 100 books originated from that list of all the books that people thought most important in their lives. People who list it on their blogs are supposed to bold-type the books they've actually read and italicize the books they started and never finished. Those they've never read at all are left in the original type.

A lot of my favorite books are not on this particular list. Of the ones on the list that I have read, some, like "Charlotte's Web" or "Anne of Green Gables," were childhood favorites. Others, like "Great Expectations" or "The Great Gatsby," were books I was required to read in my mother's high school English class. She was my teacher for several years in high school. Without her prodding me, I probably would never have touched Dickens. My seventh-grade English teacher, not my mom, was responsible for me plodding my way through "The Hobbit," though I never got around to reading the rest of Tolkien.

Various college English professors required me to read Conrad's "The Heart of Darkness." Though I finished it multiple times, I couldn't tell you the plot. I've blocked it out of my mind. Several of the books on this list appear to be classics I thought I should read but tossed aside when I got bored. Has anyone ever actually finished "War and Peace?" For reading pleasure, I tend to prefer mystery novels. On the other hand, I actually have read all of Shakespeare, all of Jane Austen and a lot of the Brontes for the sheer pleasure of it.
