Quote was out of context

Jeffrey Hoverson

Minot

On Sunday, Oct. 21, R James Maxson quoted me from the newspaper interview. The quote was quite out of context. After thinking quite hard to remember, and talking to a colleague, I remembered the context.

I would encourage Mr. Maxson to call or email people before drawing conclusions from a snippet of a news article. We may still disagree, but at least get it right.

So, we were discussing what actually helps people better (in this case, college students tuition)? is it free market approaches or state wealth redistribution. I questioned, and still do, whether over subsidizing from state taxpayers really drives tuition costs up beyond in a way that actually hurts the students they are trying to help.

There are free market approaches that put downward pressure on costs of people we want to help. Similar to health care. Just look at what Samaritan Ministry does for health costs. Downward pressure. It is a more free market approach.

So, for him to draw a line from that to conclude that I (or we) won’t stand for MSU is ridiculous. You will not find better than Oley, Bob or Jeff on that note on our current ticket. Thanks and please email next time. jeffhoverson@yahoo.com Romans 1 16
