Hold principles fast

Darel Harrington

In Sunday’s paper the editor encouraged folks to run for office by saying: “We aren’t monolithic thinkers. We aren’t all the same. We aren’t all locked into principles of the past.”

However, a recent issue of Parade had an excellent article on Jimmy Carter and he had a quote from his high school teacher who directed her students, “We must adjust to changing times, and still hold to unchanging principles.”

I think all candidates should hold to unchanging principles, like the Constitution, Pledge of Allegiance (which includes the words UNDER GOD), and Bill of Rights. When we throw away these principles we throw away our country.
